Slack Jaw
Uhhh, ont ake un oth i ack awThis simply healed malady is better then losing your fingers or hands to the corrosive bite of Fade plants, but it can be extremely troublesome for the poor, and those without access to a magical healer. The Jute Potion that causes the affliction can be easily made by any common herbalist, but it can only be cured through magical healing.
Transmission & Vectors
Slack Jaw is not contagious.
Causes
Long term use of the Jute Potion
Symptoms
The muscles of the lower jaw become more and more relaxed, leaving the afflicted with slurred speech, and eventually complete loss of jaw control.
Treatment
A simple healing spell can tighten up the muscles, and allow full jaw control again, if a healer can be found. Costs vary, but most clerics will simply charge something the person can afford as there is little to cost associated with the actual treatment.
Prognosis
Without magical treatment, the afflicted becomes unable to eat without assistance.
Affected Groups
Farmers in Fade are the broadest group of victims, as taking the Jute Potion is the cheapest way to protects yourself from the corrosive sap found in many Fade vegetation.
Prevention
If your lifestyle provides for it, the easy way to avoid this condition is to avoid the Jute Potion, but without another cheap means to protect from corrosive sap, many farmers and lower ranked Blackwatch Guard rely on the potion in order to safely harvest or scavenge food and materials from the Scourge Forest.
Cultural Reception
Pronounced Slack Jaw is seen as a problem for the lower class. People with money can usually afford to get healed at any larger city within Fade. Since it results from the use of a potion, most people see it as a self inflicted malady and don't have much sympathy for its victims.
