Magic Poisoning Condition in Disc Casters | World Anvil

Magic Poisoning

How many of those did you drink?
Magic Poisoning is an uncommon kind of illness that is caused by drinking too many mana potions or breaking too many mana crystals. The sickness can cause addiction to magic. In worse cases, there are few options in curing the poison, and the only way to be cured is to have your magic stripped away. Failure to have the excess magic dealt with may result in weathering away.

Transmission & Vectors

Mana poisoning happens when someone drinks too much mana potions, crushes too many mana crystals, or eats too much highly magical foods. The sickness can only be gotten by taking in too much magic. Too much of a good thing can and will kill you.

Causes

The victim will start to feel the effects of the poisoning after having three or more mana potions. Staying near lay lines or nexus point will increase the chances of getting sick. Bathing or swimming in magical water will almost always get you sick. While just drinking the water will be fine as long as you don't drink too much.

Symptoms

The victim will start to feel light-headed and their vision will begin to blur. They will start to look like they are drunk. If the sickness is not treated at this stage bad things could happen. The victim will then start to get a fever and start to feel thirsty. Only magically charged food and drink will be able to sate the victim. This is when a victim should go and seek help. If the victim does not seek help their hair will start growing out of control. They will become paler and start to avoid bright lights. At this stage, they will only want to eat magic and will eat magic crystals. At this stage, there is not much that can be done in the way of treatment.

Treatment

There are a few ways to treat this sickness. First, is to notice that you are getting sick and start better dieting and exercise. Even with magically ailments classic cures can still work. Second, is to have the magic flushed out of your system. This can be done by going to see your local healer. The healer will siphon the extra magic out of your body. The third way is to have a healer cut your ties to magic altogether. This is only done for the later term of the sickness. This is the only known way to prevent someone from wethering if they start to.
