Scribe

A Scribe is a person, usually fae, who travels to document lived experiences and historical events to be stored in elven archives around the world.

Career

Career Progression

Scribes generally start as hobbyists and travellers, already documenting what they see as they journey from place to place. Most who become true appointed Scribes will have approached a High Elf archivist with proof of their interest and expertise, where they will be rewarded for any new information they bring. A particularly active or accomplished Scribe may be appointed to be official Scribes of the Elven Council, sent to document official business.   In some rare cases an affluent High Elf will take personal interest in a Scribe's work and hire them to be their own personal archivist, to accompany them personally in their day to day life and document their achievements and conversations. Though this is a lucrative job, often coming with luxurious living, many Scribes will choose to turn down these offers as for many it is the personal freedom of travel and discovery that is their goal.

Payment & Reimbursement

The payment a Scribe receives depends on who they deliver the documentation to. In most cases it will be something of equal value that the Scribe needs such as food, supplies, etc. More affluent archivists may gift their Scribe with fabrics, clothes and jewellery. Though few archivists exist in Alliance countries due to wide access to online services and digital libraries, those which do will pay in credits for the Scribe to use as they wish.

Perception

Social Status

Though Scribes are of high value to Elven archivists, the majority of people consider them to be a defunct or overblown profession, especially for the level of privilege and access it gives them. Many Scribes go ignored by the people around them, allowed to carry on their recording without being bothered. It can be difficult, however, for Scribes to gain information beyond observation, as many see them as unneededly nosy and invasive.

Operations

Tools

Many Scribes historically use pens or quills with paper or notebooks, but there are many modern Scribes who prefer to store their findings digitally through the use of tablets, data-storing glasses or other digital recording methods. These findings will then either be transferred to a digital archive or printed later and stored in folders.
