The Eglabarin

Eglabarin are Ilkani that have abandoned their affiliation with the Great Houses to protest the poor treatment of the Yrch in Ilkani society.  Eglabarin commonly live among and support the Yrch underclass in Ilkani society.  Their level of devotion to this idea ranges from the idle free-spirit to the true believer.  In practice, at best they end up being rich bourgeoisie living among the Yrch providing access to resources and abilities that would otherwise not be available (principally magic).  A few rare cases actually attempt to live the true "Yrch lifestyle" but those run the risk of seeming condescending or mocking by going too far down the "tribal" route or generating resentment by taking work that Yrch do.  The irony of this is that acts of violence by Yrch against Ilkani are most commonly committed against Eglabarin, which result in further oppression by the Great Houses, which is exactly opposite of the result desired by the Eglabarin.   Within the Great Houses, the Eglabarin are seen as foolish idealists that will eventually grow out of their fascination with the Yrch.  This stems from the fact that intense interest in other cultures is common in Ilkani, but this tends to be more academic interest.  What makes the Eglabarin different is they are fully identifying with Yrch culture and are actively looking to support them in Ilkani society, either through their inclusion as part of the Empire or as is whispered on the very fringes, being part of the revolution that ends the oppression of the Empire and creates a new, more egalitarian society.   Eglabarin generally stop using their Ilkani given names and take Yrch-fashion names instead and stop using their surnames.     Yrch in Ilkani society generally take a very utilitarian approach to Eglabarin, so long as they are not being overtly ridiculous or condescending.  Oftentimes they will use Eglabarin sympathy, using them as fronts for businesses and to gain access to resources and avoid the worst oppressive actions of the Great Houses.
