Brand Scriber

A brand scriber is a tool invented invented in Nethlir, as a way to channel magic into brands or tattoos. It is often used in Nethlir's Trials of Redemption, where prisoners serving hefty sentences can be released with the promise of permanent freedom if they complete a specific act of extraordinary service for Nethlir. The Brand Scriber can be used to brand those undertaking the trials, usually with an enchantment that burns the target if they try to wander to far from the city of Ivory and allows them to be tracked and recovered if they are able to resist the burning. The brand scriber is also used recreationally to create enchanted tattoos, though these are typically only aesthetic magical effects as creating stronger effects requires a level of ability in spellcasting that is still fairly rare. The brand scriber can also be used to create marking that only appear under certain conditions, which can be popular amongst those in secret organizations, in order to hide their affiliations normally, but identify themselves when necessary or with others of their organization.


This invention is heavily sought after in other nations that are trying to develop in their understanding of magic. Nethlir has made a very nice profit off the Brand Scriber by exporting them to the people of Ethos and then even more by teaching them how to use it. Nethlir has also attempted to export to Unladrisil, but every shipment so far has been intercepted and stolen shortly before arriving at its destination. Both sides have been investigating and trying to resolve this issue, but even changing the routes of the cargo ships hasn't prevented the theft.
