Whitecurtain

Whitecurtain a small chapel and farm located in a fertile valley in southern Dunmaerik. Despite its unassuming appearance, Whitecurtain is the headquarters of the Church of Deiter.

Purpose / Function

Originally settled to pay homage to the First Druid, Whitecurtain has grown in significance, though not in size, to hold an enclave of druids and serve as a place of education.   Deiteran priests make a pilgrimage to Whitecurtain at the beginning of their training to learn from the Harvesters. They remain with the enclave for one year, long enough to witness the cycle of seasons, then take their knowledge back to their homelands.

Alterations

Since its founding, little has changed in Whitecurtain. Crops are rotated each spring, and beds are tilled. Animals are raised, slaughtered, and the next generation replaces them. Each change that has been made has become a permanent part of the training that acolytes must go through.   In 916, the High Harvester at the time taught his pupils (who would go on to form the enclave of Druids) to raise a barn to keep their stores and beasts dry and sheltered. In 927, a creek running through the field was tapped for irrigation purposes.

Architecture

The farmhouse at Whitecurtain is a log cabin set on a stone foundation on a hill overlooking the farm itself. A large stone fireplace is built into the farm's north wall, and a split-rail fence surrounds the house at a distance of thirty feet (9 meters). The primary barn is a large, two-storied wooden structure painted white (it is the barn that gives the farm its name).

Tourism

Whitecurtain is difficult to reach, by virtue of its remote location in southern Dunmaerik. Located at the foot of the Dunmaer Plateau, the farm is several days from the nearest settlement.   Priests and druids travel to Whitecurtain for training, typically overland from the Kingdom of Falcrest, though some make the journey by boat across the Halpond Sea, traversing the last fifty miles (eighty kilometers) on foot.
