Melina Massango Character in Café Noir | World Anvil

Melina Massango

Melina Massango is a very fine nuanced and persuasive woman and is known to be one of the founders of the Order of Divine Science. (O.D.S)
She didn't think on religion when she started her meetings with her friends. It maybe felt like one after the first sceance, or maybe the second. It was only when the numbers of participating people grew she considered it to become a religion. To be able to continue their deviation from the Holy Church in Rome, she decided to make an official religion.

Moment of reflection

It all began a few weeks ago. when she was feeling ill and went to the doctor in the hospital. The docter could not find anything physically wrong and decalred her healthy and fit. On her way back to the door he added 'that she might have more of those morning sicknesses. All very normal when you are pregant.

Melina froze. 'pregnant?' she said, slowly turning around. 'Pregnant?, like having a baby?' The doctor looked up from his paper. 'Yes? you are 6 weeks pregant... didn't you know?' she felt weak in her knees... pregant... as in a trance she went home. The idea of being pregnant made her wonder. Later that day, at home she couldnt focus. pregnant...

Next day she made an appointment in a specialised hospital to verify the pregancy and an hour later she got her answer. Indeed almost 7 weeks pregnant. The nurse told her also that her pregnancy would be a high risk, possibly deadly to her. This medical news was shocking.

The new way - The Rise of the O.D.S.
The religion she started will alter the perception of the church to a more scientific and mindfull approach. It will free the way for many people to use medicine. (The church, as religious institute is very weary of using man made medicine to do the work of god. The O.D.S changes that view to a more useful doctrine. The big change is the use of modern day technology to spread the word of god, to help people in need (with modern day medicine) and to be able to use medicine, healthcare etc.   rewrite this

Kate Bingham had been exposed to the tenets of Christian Science on a trip she had made to Chicago in the 1870s. A doctor in Pueblo had told a pregnant Kate that if she gave birth, she would die.Kate then went East to have her pregnancy terminated, there being no doctors in Colorado who could perform the operation at that time. While on the train to Chicago, Kate met a Christian Scientist who told her she would be able to give birth if she properly prepared her mind and spirit. In the end, Kate had the child at the home of her Christian Scientist friend (and was later to have three more children in Pueblo). When Kate returned home from her trip, she spoke about Christian Science to some of her friends, including Nona Brooks, and the women began to have weekly meetings at 318 West 9th Street in Pueblo, the winter home of the family which owned the Hopkins-Bingham ranch. The women consciously set about to adapt Christian Science philosophy to what they felt was a more pragmatic application of the Divine Spirit. For instance, Divine Science, instead of solely relying on prayer and positive thinking, permitted the consultation of medical professionals.
After the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and the death of Malinda Cramer, the headquarters moved back to Colorado, establishing its headquarters in Denver, later to move the base of its operations to Pueblo.
