Arco Withdrawal Condition in Belthuran | World Anvil

Arco Withdrawal

Arcofruit is a unique type of fruit that only grows around Mol'Amoroth in the Imperial Vineyards of the Anrasha. The fruit grows underwater the vineyards are submerged similar to rice paddies that grow nothing but this fruit. It is a favored wine among the Anrasha. With proper preparation, they can be made into a dangerous and addictive potion that borders on a narcotic. It is this potion that is the source of Arco Withdrawal and it presents in additional ways to the normal symptoms of withdrawal.

Causes

The only way to suffer from Arco Withdrawal is to have partaken in the potion that can cause this effect. So far there have been no other cases of the withdrawals from other sources.

Symptoms

The normal symptoms of withdrawal; pain, swearing, any number of psychological conditions, and so on.   The more unique symptoms include
  • A blockage of magical ability (many think they have lost their powers, but they are just unable to access them in their state.)
  • A deep purple hue to their veins, making even the normally well-hidden veins are more noticeable.
  • The sensation of burning, shocking, and freezing traveling up and down their body in random intervals with all three happening in different places being the norm. (Your head would feel like it is on fire, your hands like ice, and legs like you are being shocked as an example.)

Treatment

The more expensive but easier treatment is regular small doses of the potion increasingly more diluted as time goes on to try and ween the person suffering from withdrawals of the substance while still leaving them functional.   The cheapest and hardest method is, of course, the 'Cold Turkey' method by simply not taking any more of the concoction and suffer through the effects of Withdrawal.   Perhaps the fastest option is a Greater Restoration spell but the difficulty in finding someone able to is slim and willing to cast it after you chose the risk of the potion is unlikely.

Prognosis

If a treatment is not pursued the victim will be driven to continue to consume the potion until they eventually overstrain their body effectively poisoning themselves to the point they dilute their blood too much and end up dying.

Cultural Reception

Most look at the person with some form of contempt, for they choose to risk this condition by partaking in the potion and are now suffering the results of their actions.
