Sistipant Taming

Overview

The act of Sistipant taming is a crucial part of life on the continent of Seldranon. On a basic level taming wild sistipants is vital to ensuring new bloodlines into their breeding to ensure healthier animals. To the inhabitants of Seldranon however, it is seen as a coming of age trial. When a child reaches maturity they are sent into the desert with basic survival gear with the goal of returning with a tamed sistipant.

Execution

When someone reaches young adolescence, they are sent into the desert with other people their age with the intention of finding a sistipant herd and taming a healthy beast. The adolescents are not given a saddle, as part of the ritual is creating one from what they can find in the desert. The trial itself can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Whilst it is not uncommon for people to lose their life during the trial, everyone undergoes intensive training and study on how to survive and pull it off.   When the adolescents return with their sistipants, a large celebration is held. Food, drinks, song and dance are all available at these grand celebrations. Each person is then recognised as an adult given a small sum of gold to see them start their life within working society. These events are attended by the majority of the settlement and considered one of the biggest celebrations of the year.

History

The tradition of sistipant taming originates from the Ven era when young mortals were sent into the desert to tame sistipants for the veldren masters. For thousands of years, the mortals were forced into this trial that when the mortals finally gained freedom, they could not part with the tradition. The main difference between the ritual from the Ven era to the mortal era is that the young adolescent is given more equipment to survive with.
