Pegasi

"I can scarce remember a time I did not see the winged steeds of Olansk againsk the sky".
  • Malachai of the Red Robes
  • Basic Information

    Anatomy

Pegasi anaotmy is composed of the full form of a great horse with great feathered wings, enabling it to fly, and also carry a rider. Pegasi are either white or black with only the combination of the opposite colour on the head markings forming a faint star, star, stripe star, stripe or blaze. It is extremely rare that a pegasus will have an irregular star.   When on land, the pegasus will gallop with the stride of a horse, but in the air, they tuck their limbs under their bodies and fly with the beat of their great wings. At rest, their wings are folded and they tuck their heads in amongst their feathers like that of a swan.

    Genetics and Reproduction

Pegasi mate yearly and produce one offspring. They create nests of straw and sticks high in mountainous places naturally, although certain eyrie stables and creches have been constructed for nesting and rearing purposes by the horsemasters of Olansk in the peaks surrounding the city. The young are cared for by both parents and also by trained stablehands and squires of the nobility of those that breed them.

    Ecology and Habitats

In the wild, pegasi herd together and fly in formations that resemble chevrons. They are often plain dwellers, but never stray too far from the mountains where they breed.

    Dietary Needs and Habits

As herbivores, their diet consists of almost exactly the same fare as that of horses.

    Biological Cycle

Most Pegasi live for up to fifty or sixty years.

    Additional Information
