Four Moons of Aufyra

Each moon orbiting the planet Aufyra is named after one of the four Hero-Saints. The sentient races living on Aufyra have not yet developed a means of space exploration, and all their observations of the moons have been from the planet's surface.   Each moon has a distinct, unique color, and a faint semblance of an atmosphere. Their surfaces are more misty or shimmery than pockmarked. They still have enough craters to spark the imagination of the peoples of Aufyra, however, and they tell fairy tales of creatures inspired by their shapes.
  • Fray is the red moon, and is closest to the planet.
  • Gale is yellow and the the second-closest,
  • Nova is green and third-closest, and
  • Vega is blue, and the moon farthest from the planet.
Assuming the proper weather conditions (clear sky, etc), at least one moon is visible at all times of the day.   The most widespread calendar uses the orbital period of the Fray Moon to determine months and divide the year. The Kingdom uses the Fray Calendar, for example. Some smaller organizations and communities that avoid the Kingdom's jurisdiction use calendars of other moons.   The Four have a 1:2:3:4 (Fray:Gale:Nova:Vega) resonance ratio. This means that in the time it would take for Gale to make a complete orbit around Aufyra, Fray will have done it twice. Nova takes three times as long as Fray for an orbit, and Vega takes four times as long as Fray to make a complete orbit around the planet.   When the Four share the same sky, it is considered a time of celebration in the Kingdom. The Company of Knowing considers it a bad omen.

I'm interested in learning more about these moons, and mainly, why some see all of them being present in the sky as a good thing and why some see it as a bad omen. What's the culture surrounding the moons like? Keep up the good work!
