"Marvellous, simply marvellous, truly a field of beauty. I have no doubt, that many a teen have spent long afternoons out here, amongst the flowers, I know I would have..."
"Eh, they just look like regular old flowers to me, the cancer curing is pretty cool though."
The Tolean Wildflower is one of a few species unique to the rogue planet of
Tolea. In appearance, it seems as if it is just a regular flower, without any special abilities nor use. However, it has become vastly important to the economy of Tolea, and the products it helps create are now used across the galaxy, in a variety of circumstances and needs. Like all plants on Tolea, it enters a hibernation state when the planet leaves the confines of a nearby star, allowing it to continue surviving without oxygen or nutrients.
The flower is fairly unassuming, typically being simply a stem with an orange petal atop. This apparent lack of anything interesting led to the flowers properties never being found for millennia. It was only when, during one of Tolea's periods of isolation from any nearby star, a scientist (Farah Hares) discovered that the flower produces a small amount of liquid, when in its hibernation state.
This liquid possessed similar properties to that of water, and was initially discarded as simply another useless discovery. That was until it was accidently mixed with the medicinal herb, Jornsroot and placed in a syringe. A patient had been suffering from continuing bouts of severe pain, and the Jornsroot was intended to simply ease that pain, before the cancer consumed him. Instead, the patient recovered within the weeks, with doctors noting that it appeared the body was able to isolate kill and quickly replace the cancerous cells within the body, until the cancer was entirely gone. In that single instant, a cure for some of the most deadly cancers was found, in the most unlikely of places.
Since then, the plants have been extracted from across the planet, and have become extremely expensive as a result. Conservationists are attempting to slow down this extraction, as before long, it is believed the flower may go extinct. Attempts to synthesise the plant, or at the very least the liquid, are underway.
