Ancient Latin
A language long lost, yet never truely forgotten
"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce to you the great professor Leto Rhodes, the foremost expert on ancient languages. The man responsible for much of our current knowledge about Ancient Latin. A brilliant linguist and historian, and one of my greatest friends..."Ancient Latin is the oldest known language in Human history. It shares a similar history to Galactic English, Galactic Russian, Galactic German, Galactic Mandarin, Galactic Hindi and Galactic Spanish, in that it stems from The Homeland. Latin is considered a dead Language, with only a few of the galaxy's leading linguists being able to properly speak the language. It is believed to have once been one of the most dominant languages in the Homeland. With many other lost languages potentially being developed directly from it. Historians have pieced together many references to a Latin Empire, somewhere in the Homeland's history, however the historical references to this empire are heavily disjointed, and in some cases outright missing. Nevertheless, we know this empire was one of the most powerful in the planet's history, and cemented Latin's place as a massively influential language.Governor Hudson Wood
Geographical Distribution
Ancient Latin has never been an official language, or widespread across any planets or nations in the Galaxy of Astraesto. It was entirely confined to The Homeland, where it was an important classical language, that died out.
Today, only specialists linguists practice the language, with these linguists being spread out across the Galaxy.
