The occupation of Jor Trilak

A dangerous guild of bandits had ravaged the southern parts of Lakai for several years, though it had mostly been theft and a few kidnappings to get a ransom - this in itself was really terrifying for many of the citizens, and the guards and police of the capital Aikann had been sent out to deal with them many times.   Even though many events had been happening leading up to this fateful day, no one would be prepared for how far the bandits would go for a good sum of money and riches. In 4707, in the early spring, the town was attacked by the guild. Around 100 people, with weapons, heavy armour and threats ravaged the city. Their plan was to take the rather small town hostage, and then require a good sum of money to let them go free.

The first days

The town was a rather small rural town but had a somewhat a lot of traffic going through. It was for many a stop on the way to the capital, which is how the city survived. A lot of trading goods came through town, and this is the reason why the bandit guild chose this small town rather than any other town - the direct road and connection to the capital. Surely this would get their attention.   And it did indeed get the leaders in the attention of the capital, as they saw a town filled with innocent people being held hostage.

Work and forced labor

While the bandits occupied the place, they made the inhabitants do work for them, forcing them to farm their crops for the bandits to eat, cook their meat, make new weapons in the small blacksmith they had in town - though most people were kept on constant watch in some of the larger houses in town.   It was a nightmare for the poor citizens, worn out by the hard work they were forced to do without breaks.   Some traders were already on their way towards the capital and were caught in the city by the bandits - their wares were taken and they were kept under watch with the rest if the city.   Each day, the guild transferred some loot out of town and presumably to their own hiding place, and the citizen could only watch.

Is help on the way?

Being terrified for their own life and the life of their children, the citizen did everything they were told to do, and pretended to be kind towards the bandits - they wanted to earn their trust a bit, as they weren't sure when help would arrive and if it ever would before they'd all perished.   In secrecy, the citizens were planning an uprising, though they need the perfect timing and they needed every one of the citizens to be ready for it. It was organized in secrecy, as they took notice of when the bandits left with their goods each morning, and how many left. They wanted to make sure as few bandits were there as possible, and weapons would be good as well - luckily, they had access to a lot of oil in the kitchens where they were forced to cook for them, so when the time came, fire would be a part of it.   On the 15'th day, the citizens had helped the guild to gather a lot of goods from their town, which ended up being a lot - this meant that more of them had to go in order to be able to transport it away.   When the last wagon had left and had been gone for around an hour the plot began. A girl began to sing in a corner of town, a local song that everyone in town knew, and it slowly spread. Soon enough most of town was singing the song. The remaining bandits told them to shut it, but the song never stopped before the last verse. And when the last word had left their mouth, the battle began. Oil flasks were emptied on the ground and thrown at the bandits, and then the few people in town capable of fire magic ignited the highly flammable liquid.   This took the bandits by total surprise, and they were panicked and shocked, exactly as the people had hoped for. The battle had begun, and in the initial confusion, the citizen had gotten the upper hand.
Balls of fire were flung through the air, and weapons were stolen from the bandits as they panicked and used against them. They tried to fight back, and they did manage to hurt a lot of people, but in the end, they were outnumbered by the brave citizen of Jor Trilak.
As they ran out of town, the capital guards had finally arrived and caught them as they tried to leave. Sentenced to life in prison, the bandits were taken back to the capital.   Unfortunately, the town lost lives in this bloody battle for freedom, around 16 people died of their injuries and 53 people had major injuries.
