Syrup of Flegg

The Syrup of Phlegg is an extremely rare and very potent healing oil with supposedly only one flask in existence at the moment, at least according to the old Dwarf the last time I conversed with him.

Of Lost Arkose

Phlegg Pestlewielder is ancient even for one of his race. A native of Arkose, yes Arkose, the very same Dwarven city that was thought lost beneath the waves as a result of the Flare  . He is descended from the survivors of that cataclysm who, though completely cut off from the rest of Aeon were able to exist within the ruined remains of their fallen capital, adapting to the altered conditions.

Fascinatingly it appears the city, built beneath a mountain as most Dwarven settlements are, was shielded by powerful old magic imbued within a massive gemlike structure called the Glitterheart embedded in the centre of the ceiling of the vast central cavern. This had allowed that area to survive as the entire mountain range collapsed and the ocean flooded in to fill the void overhead.

Over time this isolation created a unique ecosystem and it is here that Flegg happened upon his healing mixture. As an alchemist in the image of his forebears, his life's work had been the constant search for some elixir that would heal the gravest of wounds and sickness. The nature of magic had been altered with the Flare and while the protective dome still held there were no Wielders proficient with the new power; thus many things once taken for granted were no longer available such as healing manipulations.

Old traditional ways were rediscovered, including alchemical practices thought outdated. Phlegg struck success with his potent healing oil after many failed and near-fatal attempts, stumbling upon this mixture which instantly closes the most serious wounds; knitting and repairing bones and tissue and stopping bleeding.

A Life's Work

One drop on the wound will usually suffice, although two drops may be necessary for large, deep or extreme wounds or severe bleeding. No more than five drops should ever be administered to the same patient in their lifetime, though Phlegg has never actually explained what the consequences would be should this condition ever be breached.

Now the unfortunate thing is that the oil is composed of extracts derived from the unique species found in the sunken city which is now utterly destroyed after a small group of adventurers found a way in and aided the remaining Arkosians to escape. The act of opening a long sealed portal to Arkose apparently weakened the protective dome which deteriorated and ultimately failed just as the last residents of the once proud city looked back from the safety of Monument.

And so Phlegg has resumed his research with the help of his daughter Leyda, notwithstanding the fact that magical healing does exist which reduces the endeavour to a near-irrelevance. He is quite determined though, stating that "one never knows when magic might not be sufficient!"
