Dehbi's Dine'r {Debbie's Diner}

Dehbi's Dine'r is an Earth themed restaurant in Ashfire  Established by eccentric chefs and anthropologists Cleo and Debbie in the year 4000 Eternity, the diner continues to be a popular tourist stop.

Purpose / Function

Dehbi's Dine'r claims to have the widest and most authentic variety of earth foods in Faerie. While this claim may be true, the bar is extremely low. The food served at Dehbi's Dine'r often combines Siv'ian ingredients with multiple earth cuisines to create food that doesn't normally exist in any world.

Architecture

The tavern is built to resemble "the typical dining experience on the world Earth". It's exterior appears to be similar to earth warehouses, although it is accented with a neon sign. The interior combines a dizzying array of Earth decor, although it most closely resembles a diner from the United States circa 1950-1960 CE.

History

Dehbi's Dine'r was founded be self-proclaimed multiversual anthropologist Cleo and her human wife Debora. They initially started the diner based on the foods Debora was familiar with from growing up in the 30s and 40s in the U.S. Later, as they ventured through many mini-vortexes for "research" the diner began taking inspiration from a wide variety of time periods and cultures.   The diner continues to operate solely from it's original Ashfire location, although the building has burned down twice. Additionally, the business is still run by Debbie and Cleo. It is unclear how Debbie is still alive, as she has out lived her species' typical lifespan by roughly 10,000 Siv'ian years.

Tourism

The diner is a popular tourist attraction in Ashfire. While many deem its human culture too strange and unusual, there is a loyal and dedicated following. Cleo and Debbie have denied many requests to expand their chain, though their reasoning for doing so is unclear.

Staff

Cleo and Debbie: While they are best known for their diner, Cleo and Debbie have another claim to fame. They have written dozens of books together concerning human culture, vortexes, the nature of the The Infinite Chain, and other topics under the pen name Dorthe Hilltopple. Their discoveries, both scientific and anthropological have had a lasting effect on the way Siv'ians see Earth and the Infinite Chain.   Despite this academic merit, the couple chooses to remain known mostly for their restaurant. "The diner is goofy, yes," Debbie told the Ashfire Reveal earlier this year, "But it's fun and creative. And also an excuse to introduce my wife to milkshakes."     Mar: Mar is the cashier and main server at the Diner. They’ve worked there for 400 years, and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.   Lex: Lex is the head chef. He is known to be eccentric, optimistic, and creative, possibly influencing the strange combinations found at the diner.   Ry Bors: The other waiter and occasional janitor of the diner, Ry is a mysterious but fun person. Even Cleo and Debbie don’t know much about her, but she works hard and has an infectious positive attitude.   Virtue: The grumpy Iather janitor has been a beloved member of the diners staff longer than anyone but Mar. While he may seem detached and stand-offish at first, Virtue is a caring and trustworthy friend once you get close. Many regulars will stay to help him clear their tables and have a visit.   Areth: The youngest member of the diner’s staff, Areth is a Faerian mortal chef. He is very patient and understanding, a good match for Lex and Cleo in the kitchen. He named himself after Sir Gareth, after hearing stories of Arthur’s knights as a child.

I love goofy Fae! XD Nice quick article, and the whole spelling thing and lovely owner couple is just delightful.   Food that doesn't exist anywhere?? I want to eat there! o,o

Very interesting concept. It is always interesting to see how the Fae interpret human things. I like the idea that Debora probably just occasionally goes, "well i GUESS you could us 'x' as a hamburger topping..."

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

I really enjoyed the idea of the tavern, but would love to know more of this Ashfire just alone from this article alone! You could add a sentence or two like "Ashfire, Mars" or "Ashfire, Feywild" or stuff like that. From what I can understand it seems like this location is in some other plane of existance?   Also I would love a small peep behind the curtains to see examples of foods they offer that can be found nowhere else!

Scientists who run a Diner, good idea. The name reminded me to Debbis Diner in Queer as folk, but your tavern concerning the more divers drinks is just more fantasy than replicating real earth restaurants.

The world is not enough.

I love the fact, that the English terms for all human ingredients did suffer through the test of time being still recognizable but written in a completely different way. Very creative menu and location ^^
