Mana Corruption

"You have to be careful where you draw your Mana from. If you do so in a corrupted reserve, there is no going back."
- Christian Elintio, the founder of Spes Lucet
Mana Corruption is a Mana-induced disease caused by their Mana Reserves being deteriorated by their extreme bouts of dark emotions or drawing from a corrupted Mana Reserve. Ranging from mild to severe, it was known to be an incurable disease that that was known to turn any race into mutated monsters.   This disease was known for infecting thousands of people in an epidemic 5 years ago during the miasma outbreak in Lucidus that caused some to turn into monsters, which was called a "Death Plague" to a non-magical community. However, after a cure has found with the joint efforts of the Royal Magicians and the grandson of Christian Elintio, it was no longer feared as a Death Plague as many magicians of the Spes Lucet worked with the Royal Magicians on curing and eradicating the Mana Corruption disease and the miasmas once and for all.

Transmission & Vectors

The corrupted Mana is found within the miasma that plagued many forests and villages outside the towns and cities. There is no known information about it except that the miasma can corrupt the Mana lingering in the air and the flora and fauna as well with the living beings such as Humans, Elves, and Insignis.

Causes

The corrupted Mana will begin its cycle if the patient breathes into the miasma or by casting a spell. However, there are reports that a patient's Mana can be corrupted without a miasma if they show extreme bouts of negative emotions such as anger, sadness, jealousy, and rage.

Symptoms

Upon contact with the corrupted Mana, the patient will experience vertigo and fatigue in the first 2 minutes as the corruption begins to spread through the lungs area of the reserves. After that, the patient's skin starts to slowly change into purplish-black coloration starting on their chests as they begin to feel chills around their body.   As the infection continues, the patient will experience mild to severe hallucinations as well as several mood swings as the discoloration spreads around their back and legs. Eventually, after 2-5 hours without any treatment and the lack of Mana Control, they begin to grow fangs, horns, claws, or tail as the patient grows irritable and violent.   Then once 12 hours have passed, the patient who succumbs the disease will slowly mutate into a monster with no options to reverse the mutation process.

Treatment

Years ago, it was known as an incurable disease due to how the corrupted Mana can be spread through another person through Mana Drain and how it can continue to spread through the body afterward unless the source of the corruption was found and destroyed.   However, it was recently discovered by Alcora Oztar, Evan Elintio, and Alphaeus Tazoru that Mana Corruption can be treated by exorcising the corrupted Mana around their body through Light magic. If done quickly after the patient is infected for about 2 minutes, they will be fully cured with no side effects in their body's Mana Reserves.

Prevention

To avoid any areas with high levels of corrupted Mana, magicians created spells and magical items to temporarily ward off the Mana when passing through it. However, there are times that the area will become off-limits to anyone until an experienced magician exorcised the area. The disease can also be resisted by a magician who has high Mana Control, though it is only temporary until the corrupted Mana is exorcised.
