Dryfeet day

A marking and commemoration of tadpoles coming out of their safe pond into dry land

The grippli hold special significance to the first time a group of young gripplis, also known as tadpoles, emerge from their safe pond. Every subsequent year, this special occasion is celebrated. This celebration is planned by everyone else in the clan, and those being celebrated can enjoy the day and do nothing but enjoy each other's company. This means that throughout the year, each clan will hold as many dryfeet days as generations they have.

It is traditional to start and finish a dryfeet day with a swim in the water with all the siblings who shared the first year of their lives.

The rest of the day, each celebrating grippli may do as they please, though it most often involves eating and spending time with friends.

A grippli's first day outside of the water

After a year in the pond growing up, the grown tadpoles are ready to come out of the water, at least for some time. The grippli clan prepares for this day, as from that moment onward, the tadpoles become the whole clan's responsibility, not just those gripplis that participated in the spawning.
In this day, each tadpole, who by now have four limbs, but still a tail, will come out of the pond to receive their name. Providing a name for each tadpole that survived is the last responsibility of the adult grippli who participated in the spawning.
After a feast, with all of the new members of society, the tadpoles go back to the pond, as they are still too young to survive outside of the water for long periods of time. It will take them about another year before their tails are completely gone and they are comfortable outside of the water.

Grippli Reproduction

The grippli like to reproduce communally.   Typically once a year, those gripplis who wish to participate in the mating event will all create a pond in a safe location within their area.   During a clan-wide celebration, those participating in the spawning will all get in the pond and revel in each other's company. After 39 days, the grippli eggs will hatch from the pond.   For the following year, the tadpoles will be taken care of exclusively by those who participated in the spawning.

A great take on a very non-human species! I'd be careful with the perspective shift in the second paragraph. Going to second person is particularly jarring as I don't recall this experience. Otherwise great stuff!

Hi, Michael!   Thanks for that warning. I have fixed it now (better late than never hopefully).

Great article! I just want to ask if the celebration is on the same day each year? If not, do others celebrate the anniversary of their first exit from water?

It is not on the same day each year. Each generation has a communal day marking the time when they came out of the water first, but different generations have different days.   I do think there is a good chance that different generations or creches end up sharing a day, both by chance and because there are better and worse times to be laying the eggs. I do think this may be subtly encouraged, but I will have to think about the ramifications of sharing dry feet days across generations.   Thank you very much for your insightful question!

I Will add my voice with kajetan. IT may need a Little precision if the event is unique once-in-a-year. To help clarify if all generation kinda look on the next since the hatching Day is always the same or close to. Like, it would mean Everyone Gets the Day off if thats the case. Maybe the wording could help.   Not really Much to had on for this one, but its cool to get grippli content, and the extra image is a good Pick.   Happy summercamp!
