Owl (Playable Race)
Owls are among the largest of the sprite mounts, and their excellent eyesight, rapid movement, and ability to see just as well at night as during the day makes them an asset to any sprite colony. When an owl accompanies sprites on an adventure, they typically fulfill several functions, including night watch (albeit the group likely gets moving later in the day to give the owl time to sleep), warm body in cold weather, and personnel carrier.
Barn owls (which is a general term in Zurn for “owls with rounded faces and no ‘ears’ or ‘horns’ sticking out from that rounded face) have a cute and simple visage, and when they possess the gift of speech they typically have softer and more winsome voices.
While all owls are pretty wise, none are quite as wise as the harsher (sometimes even screeching) voices of the horned owls. And in some of the wilder parts of the world where magic is stronger, some of these owls have actual horns, not just feather protrusions like ears.
Owl mages have no natural aversions to magic, and tend to favor the Dark and Arcane lores.
