Kestra
The kestra have the wings and body of a kestrel bird of prey, but the legs and arms of a man. Tucking their arms close to the body while they fly, the kestra also possess shapeshifting properties that allow them to shift into bird forms easily, which they often use to disguise themselves from the eyes of the Big Folk. Some of the Big Folk have taken to thinking that there really are no such things as birds in the world: they are all just kestra in a bird form. The kestra have refused to comment on this, but tell the Big Folk to live in fear.
Kestra colonies tend to be smaller, typically fitting in a single tree on the branches. They build nests like other birds where a single family resides, so a “colony” of kestra can be spread out over as much as an acre of land and still consider itself one colony. It means more area to patrol, though, so they will typically pick larger trees with more foliage for cover over sparse trees in a larger area.
Kestra hunters (also known as findsmen) are commonly employed by chieftains, kings, and warlords among the sprites, as they are fast and agile. While not particularly well-known for their mages, their skycutter priests are well known for raining down fire and arcane magic upon their enemies. While the kestra have no known aversions to magic, they are best known for using the Arcane Lore and the Lore of Fire.
