The Sanctorum of the Three Pillars Company

"As we made our approach, the wind howled and buffeted my face. It was hard to imagine anyone making this trip more than once by their own accord. And yet, many did.   We soared through the sky for some amount of time. I was unsure as I was busy trying to make sure the sheer force of the winds at that height didn't destroy my lungs. It didn't seem to bother my escort, Chego at all. No doubt he was used to it. Not to mention he was making a handsome sum to get me there. His smile made me feel as though I probably overpaid, but if the stories were true, it would be worth the expense.   After some time huddled in the front of his skiff, I could hear him call out over the howling wind. I looked to see him pointing forward. I didn't need to make out what he said as I turned my face into the wind. There it was. The University. The home of the Three Pillars Company.   Arguably, it was good that I was so taken aback because I wasn't sure I could have breathed anyways. All I could do was look at its massive majesty. Resting on its own independent chunk of Zi, miles in the sky, the Sanctorum floated. It wasn't the welcoming sight I expected. Rather, it was as if the island itself was daring me to approach. It rotated and the sun shone through the spires as if to show off all that it had for me to discover. I steeled myself and in my mind, accepted the duel. I would learn all that this place could teach me until my brain couldn't take it and then I would go further. That is what is demanded of those that come here."

Purpose / Function

The Sanctorum was born from the desire of mortals to prove their power to the gods and in succeeding, was their last great creation. It showed the prowess and dominion the mortals had achieved over their world. It wasn't until ages later that Three Pillars would make it their home.   Now, it stands as the torch lighting the way for knowledge as those that have the desire and means to get there can study its vast libraries and learn under its many masters.   The Sanctorum also acts as a reliquary for all things yet to be understood. From its place amongst the clouds, the inhabitants of the University are sent out to recover the lost magics of the world and bring them back for study.

Alterations

Over time the residents have shaped the Sanctorum into three great spires representing the foundations of the Company. These were and still remain, Integrity, Intelligence, and Inquisitiveness.   In addition to the rearrangements, other modifications and additions were added. These included but are not limited to dormitories and a small market with wares from all corners of Zi. The Masters of the Three Pillars wanted to ensure that all of their needs were met.

Architecture

The University, in its original form, was quite simple. It was simple stone and marble carved into rather rudimentary designs. Its simplicity was beautiful. Many wish to return it to its previous aesthetic as it has a long history of some rather gaudy design choices.   One of the unexpected benefits of the malleable stone of the buildings is that the architecture can be changed, constantly keeping it modern. This is not always a favorable choice as fashion goes through phases and fortunately, not many had to see its experimental years. However, as many sages and scholars there would tell you, progress requires risks.   In the modern day, as scholars of all sorts have made their home on the island, its architecture has taken aspects from all realms of life. If you ask anyone from there, they will assure you that no two rooms are the same and that the shape of its streets varies by the week.

History

In eons past was a time of magical chaos. The mortal races were strong and proud. They saw the gods for what they were, beings of great power but fundamentally flawed. They were aware that their own creation was the gods' own undoing, for man, elf, dwarf, and all others have in their heart to be unchained. Thus, in the last days of the Unemia, the greatest masters of magic in the world showed their dominion over all as they ripped stone from mountain and magic from the ether and merged it into one great form.   The masters saw fit to prove their strength by doing the unthinkable. Doing that which the gods mandated that none were allowed. To create life from nothing.   In an act that rendered their very essence down and back to the primordial soup which was then infused into the stone, the Masters succeeded. In their wake stood the greatest creation the world had ever or has ever seen. Resting atop floating, formless earth lies the one true Sanctorum.   With no one to wield it, the Sanctorum drifted through the skies for a millennia before the first would make their way there. These explorers were scholars and sages and those that survived the initial experience found themselves rulers of a place without equal. For you see, the ancient stories were true… the Sanctorum was alive.   As the explorers made their way around the floating island in the sky, they found themselves lost. Despite the best efforts of their best cartographers, they were never able to end up where they thought they should be. They soon realized that the reason for their misfortune was not ineptitude, but that the stones and the earth were reshaping themselves at their own whim. This did nothing to dissuade them and through the sheer tenacity of mortals, they eventually managed to gain control over the island.   Realizing the power they now wielded, the explorers realized that they now had all the tools to continue their quests for knowledge, and so they did. From that point on, the Sanctorum would be the home of the Three Pillars Company; a home for the discovery, study, and mastery of all knowledge and it would be known throughout the cosmos.

The Towers

The three towers that pierce the sky each serve their own purpose and are operated by different branches of the university. Each is essential to keeping the Company what it is and without one, the others would be lost.

The Tower of the Constant

As the name implies, this tower is dedicated to maintaining the regular functions of the island. This includes, but is not limited to, navigating sky currents, housing the reliquary, and managing the defenses of the tower, should some terrible entity see fit to harm it. The last of which is managed by the massive floating orb that rests above the top of the tower.

The Tower of the Ancient

Notable as the largest of the spires, this tower is adorned with a massive observatory at its zenith. This tower is dedicated to the study all manner of the cosmos. It also is home to the Grand Library. A collection of information believed to house every known fact of the modern era.

The Tower of the Application

The third and final tower is where theories and studies come to be tested. Separated by three main tiers, the tower contains large expansive areas for spells and enchantments to be put through trials and the results of those trials are documented. Naturally, many students find themselves drawn here to test out their hypotheses. However, this tower is not to be taken likely. Many have lost their lives here due to careless experiments and not respecting the magics that they wield.

Good job my friend. I enjoyed it so have a like! As a little suggestion id out that opening quote in a quote box just to distinguise it from the rest of the text. It sets up the article very well. Also don't neglect the sidebar. :) plenty of stuff here that would fit beautiufly in it like the alterations section and maybe even architecture. Have a good one!
