Followers & Priesthood

The followers of Maccio are a simple lot - they are not prone to large centralized gatherings and instead tend to mark locations they are staying in with the symbol of Maccio in some way to signify to any fellow faithful of the presence of one of their kind, such as placing a small metal sign above the door of an inn to signify such faithful are welcome or that a member of the faith is visiting and staying there. In this way, they often form makeshift tabernacles, churches, gatherings, and the like - especially on the road, where they often place welcoming signs of posts near their tents in case any members of the faithful happen past and wish to join them for the night for drinks and stories. While rare, it is possible that one may happen upon a "Traveler's Rest Stop" along the roads in areas where the Maccian faith is well-established - these buildings are the closest thing the faithful have to permanent structures, though these buildings are often open to any and all in need of a quick break, rest, or place to sleep and eat for the night. These open-air complexes serve as welcome respites from the ardors of traveling, and often offer companionship and company to those who need it.   They are a cheerful and informal lot, and do not often wear uniforms - often they simply emblazon the symbol of Maccio on their outfits, armor, weapons, or the like in prominent places for others to easily identify them in a way that is not uncomfortable for they themselves and easily seen by others. Oftentimes, they identify themselves to other members of the faith by organizing themselves into "Chapters" of the faith that serve a similar role that specific churches or cathedrals would in other faiths - these "Chapters" often have numbers and epithets attached to them, and can refer to a group of faithful operating in a specific area or even simple refer to those bound by oaths of brother or sisterhood, regardless of distances. These "chapters" also serve to help other members of the faithful identify others of their kind and what they can sort of expect from them simply by knowing what "chapter" they are a part of...for example, meeting someone who identifies themselves as a member of "Chapter 980, AKA The Narixian Riders", one can assume that said member of the faith often works within The Narixian Empire, or holds the Narixian ideals close to their hearts - both ways to help narrow down what to expect from a given member.

Ethics

The Maccian creed is a simple one - followers of Saint Maccio are avid travelers or wanderers, and believe in constantly moving from place to place and never quite staying in one place forever, and specifically blazing new trails, paving new paths, and simply going where none have gone before - sometimes literally interpreting this as laying new roads or paths as they go for others to follow, though not all take it so literally. They believe that one's "Life Journey" is not a tale that can or should be written in one place alone(For that one make a quite boring tale), so they endeavor to move about, staying places for up to years at a time before inevitably moving along, seeing more of the world and the wondrous creatures within it. They often think that by doing this, they enrich themselves and their life's journies with new experiences and tales to tell, and thus grow as a person.   They also believe in preserving the myths, tales, and stories of the world wherever they can be found - not just all knowledge, but they tend to specifically focus on tales and stories and the like, which they seek out and diligently collect and document like faithful scribes. They believe that tales, myths, and stories are literally the identity of the culture they came from, and they believe with all their hearts that such things should not be allowed to vanish - often, after a culture has vanished, these very tales, stories, and myths are all that is left behind for others to remember them by and followers of Saint Maccio see it as their God-Given duties to seek such things out, recover them, protect them, and ensure they are passed down to future generations.   Finally, they are a simple people who believe in offering assistance where it is asked for - a simple, genuine plea for help is not something those of the Maccian faith take lightly, and one they are fairly predisposed to listen to no matter who it comes from. In this way, they believe that they do good in whatever small ways they can and make the world a better place to live in one good deed at a time - spreading joy and aid to many to counteract the negativity and evil that so often infects the world. They also believe in watching over and protecting those on the road, those traveling, and those on a journey in a broader sense - this often makes themn incredibly natural adventurers who often find themselves drawn to the life for reasons of their own, and as they find adventuring parties to join they think are worth helping along to their journey's completion they stick around such a party, seeing it as their duty to help them to the end of the road.

History

The history of Saint Maccio is a simple but humble one - born to a pair of simple parents in the realm of what is now modern day Ustana, she was born to parents who did not want a girl, and as a result recieved a name at birth that was masculine in nature. Her parents, once they found out she was a girl, decided not to change their daughter's name - and it thus stuck. She grew up as a farm girl and simple peasant in the village she was born in, but it was during her late teenage years she is said to have been stricken by a great wanderlust and, after having grown tired of her simple farming life that threatened to be the only life she ever knew from birth to death, simply hopped on a trader's wagon as it left her birth town and left her life behind to see the world.   She wandered for many years afterwards - living a life of wanderlust, moving from place to place and traveling from her home realm of Ustana all the way to the far northern end of the continent in the Shenchuan Tundra, going so far as to even see The Wanderer during her later years...though from a great distance, as getting any closer to the enormous titan would likely spell her death. She eventually made a name for herself as a brave explorer during the Age of Conquest, and eventually scored a lucrative deal as a hired explorer for Kyra Aenai herself, and was said to have led the first successful expedition that made contact with the then anarchic lands of Tarthus-Tetsu...and was, more notably, the first foreigner to set foot inside the throne room of a Tarthan Pharaoh in millennia as Amenmeses Ra-sen Shakanasa I(Before his ascension to God-King and before he had formally established the Kingdom of Tarthus-Tetsu) heartily welcomed new foreigners to his then-small lands, regaling them of tales of his glory, wealth, and plans for the future...of which, Maccio was said to have even given some advice to the young future Pharaoh about his future plans. For her deeds in life as a great explorer and patron of the open roads, she was inducted into the halls of the saints of Irlaman, The Boltbound Empress - though she might not have achieved the notoriety of some of her peers, her glorious deeds and life of freedom and travel embodied the tenets of Irlaman, The Boltbound Empress to their utmost...proving that one does not need universal fame to reach the halls of Sainthood.
Brick by brick, stone by stone   Lonely is the road that's walked alone   By my side, you can stay   'Till the ale's all gone and you're on your way!
