The Duchy of Ambar

The waves gently crash on the sandy beach. The beach stretches out for miles and still I'm alone. I turn around to the face endless rolling hills. I make my way through the green hills, the feet-long grass moves past my boot. I walk for half a day before reaching the outskirts of a sparsely wooded area. I've yet to encounter someone today. I look at the forest. The tall trees stand far apart, bushes and grasses cover the floor. The forest feels open, bright almost welcoming. I use the rest of the day to make my way through the woods. When I see the sun slowly setting throughout the leaves, I hear the faint shouts of human life. I've reached the first sign of civilization, although it isn't much. The village is home to four families. They live their lives hunting and gathering. They invite me in for a meal and a place to sleep. While moved by their generosity, I continue my journey. I traverse fields which are perfect for livestock or grain yet unused. The day comes to a close when the hills around me start to get steeper. The last ray of sunshine lights the hills before me. They are no longer passable by foot. As the sun vanishes I conclude my journey. I set camp at the border, behind me the Duchy of Ambar, in front of me the rest of this beautiful world.

General Overview

The Duchy of Ambar is a quiet dukedom located in the northeast of Kralon. The hills, forest and fields are all under rule of Duke Bansworth. The family Banworth has always been an influential familiy in the region so it was no surprise that they were awarded the duchy when it was created. Their seat of power is located in the town of Ricoza.   The borders of the Duchy are fairly undisputed. In the north there is of course the natural barrier of the ocean. In the south the inhospitable Spineback Hills form a border between Ambar and the rest of Kralon. The Eastern border is quite vague because no ruler really wants the area. Officially, the border is defined by the Ruins of Saugny and the nearby river. But many would say Bankee belongs to the duchy as well. The border to the east is a bit simpler. The river running past Alshenar marks the western end of The Duchy of Ambar.

Points of Interest

Ruins of Saugny

Not many ruins can be found in Kralon, mostly because of the short history of mankind in the region. Ambar has even less ruins due to the fact that timber the preferred building material is. Because of this all, the Ruins of Saugny are quite the sight. A small stone town that has been fully deserted and slowly reclaimed by mother nature. Many theories exist to explain the presence of the ruins.

The building style is too exotic and too durable to be made by local villagers in the 10 years following Armageddon. The prevalent theory states that Saugny used to be a temple city. When the gods were killed, the people fled the city in sheer terror. Although this happened only 10 years ago, nobody knows where the people of Saugny have gone. A mystery that haunts Ambar to this day.

Present day not many scour the Ruins of Saugny. Nonetheless reports of Emerald Flow have been making their way to the Duke. According to those, clouds of green mist have been starting to seep out of the depths of the ruins.

Ricoza

Capital of The Duchy of Ambar and subsequently the biggest town found in the region. Although quite small, with a population of just 3000 people, Ricoza is the city people think about when they hear the Duchy of Ambar. When the people of Kralon decided to make their way to the eastern coast to settle, Ricoza was one of the first settlements created. The location makes it a perfect stop for people crossing the Spineback Hills. The town has always been under rule by House Bansworth so when they were awarded the duchy, Ricoza automatically became the capital.

Ricoza is somewhat famous for its timber and has some of the finest carpenter in the country. It's no surprise that processed wood is Ricozas biggest export product. Besides wood and wooden products, Ricoza is also known for its yearly hunt. Every year the duke and other noblemen stay in the Spineback Hills for three days. The hunter who returns with the biggest, most dangerous animal wins the hunt.

Augury Keep

When the colonization of Kralon started, men arrived in the west. It took some years for them to cross the mountainous inner lands and reach the east coast of Kralon. To make the journey to the east easier for the new settlers, soldiers created an encampment for families to eat and rest. Over the years the camp became an important stop in the journey to the east. Naturally the wooden palisades grew into stone walls and the watchpost became a sturdy stone tower. Eventually the camp became known as Augury Keep, a gateway into the green hills of Kralons east coast.
