Amanodel - Lower Districts

The Lower Districts consists of 7 main areas. Each area, while not having physical barriers separating them, still appear quite distinct from each other moving from one area to the next.

Tent town

While not officially part of the city, its existence for the past 180 years has resulted in people viewing it as part of the lower districts. 50 feet from the wall, and away from the edge of all incoming roads, white posts have been pounded into the ground, 20 feet apart. This serves as the boundary where tent town cannot exceed. This is to protect those traveling to and from the city and prevent obstruction of access to the outer wall. Immediately within those boundaries lays tent town, a mass of hundreds of tents scattered about in ramshackle fashion. Pathways wind amidst the cluster of tents, often conglomerating around fire pits. The smell of smoke and heavily trampled earth permeate the area. The ground, packed hard by the uncounted hordes of travelers that have passed through, is bumpy and barren. The murmur of the tent town residents creates an endless blanket of white noise. Safety in tent town is questionable as guards do not patrol through it, so thefts and brawls being fairly common place.

Harbor

A long stretch of the city borders the waters of the Teuvel Bay. Massive piers stretch out into the water, providing space for over 50 large vessels to moor at any given time. At the eastern end of the harbor, there are also numerous piers with smaller sections, providing locations for over 500 smaller vessels to moor. At the western end of the harbor, there are large docks where ships can be pulled up into for maintenance or repair. Numerous warehouses line the edge of the harbor. Several taverns, inns, and brothels are also scattered along this route. At the north west end of the docks is the main guard outpost for the lower districts. Most of the buildings in the area are simple gray bricked buildings.

Commons

"The Commons" is the residential district and wraps around the majority of the north and west exterior of the inner wall. Home to a significant portion of the city's population, the Commons is also the largest region within the city. The houses in various sections are both simple and similar in design. This is due to the surge of growth that Amanodel faced during its earlier years resulting in housing needing to be built quickly. The Commons is divided up into named sectors, named after some of the original groups that initially helped settle Amanodel. The roads throughout most of the commons is comprised of large bricks which are replaced as needed.

Lower Markets

The lower Markets contains a wide variety of stores, shops, stalls, and services. There are two separate market hubs within the lower districts. One is located on the north-eastern side of the city and the other is on the south-west border of the city. The people within Amanodel often just refer to them as the east and west markets. The markets have a mixture of both permanent buildings and temporary stalls. The stalls are often rented out by merchants who travel into Amanodel to sell their wares. Most of the craftsmen within Amanodel have either opened up their own shops or have partnered with local merchants and sell through their established shops at the cost of part of the profit. Within the lower markets, it is extremely uncommon to find magical items of any real power as the city regulates what magical items can be bought or sold and by whom. The few magic-oriented shops within the lower districts primarily deal with novelty wares like the cape of billowing or simple utility items, such as the torch of everburn.

Crafting District

The crafting district is on the south-eastern edge of the city. Within the district itself, it has divided itself into 3 main sections, the Forge, the Stitchers, and the Enchanters.

The Forge:

The most prominent section within the crafting district, the Forge contains a large number of blacksmiths, stonesmiths, and carpenters. Due to the high number of forges in the area, this area of the city is always warmer than the rest.

The Stitchers:

Despite it's name, only about 1/3 of the crafting done in this section is actually creation of end-product clothing. The majority of it is large warehouses with flat sprawling roofs that focus on the creation of textiles and the preparation of hides to be used.

The Enchanters:

This section takes up only a couple blocks within the crafting district and is, by far, the smallest section. Sturdy stone-walled buildings with small fenced in grass lawns are prominent here. Small creatures, such as fairies, pseudodragons, birds, and other familars are often seen darting about the area. Working closely with the other two areas, the enchanters here imbue magical properties onto the product and tools that the other sections produce. Within the section as well are several apothecaries that purchase their ingredients from traders or farms to produce potions, tonics, or reagents.

Festival Grounds

Located on the southern border of the city is a large park. Sprawling grass fields with trees, benches, walkways, gazebos, and small artificial lakes make up the majority of this section of the city. During each of the major holidays, the city puts on a corresponding festival. The festivals are often done on a very grand scale with large numbers of people from across Kioterra often joining the festivities. When not actively being used for the festivals, the grounds are open and maintained for the public to come and enjoy the area at their leisure.

Entertainment District

The entertainment district follows along the eastern exterior of the inner wall. While taverns can be found in both markets and the docks, there are many more present in this district than the others combined. Music halls, theaters, fancy restaurants, libraries, sports centers, and more resides within this district.
