El'vhen, City of the Arcane

The sights that i have seen here are indescribable... but if i had to describe it, I would say that it is... magic-y? - Toldas the Discoverer
El'vhen is a place of arcane wonders. It is the elf's capital city in Mélemardor which is responsible for many of the magical items in Zeimia. It is a place that have rejected the worship of gods in order to advance their own power and understanding of the world. There are wonder to behold and mysteries to discover within its mystical walls.

There is an estimated 300,000 people that live in this city. El'vhen is populated 95% of elves with the majority of those being high elves. 5% of the population are various other species that have been deemed acceptable by the council of Mélemardor to reside in the capital which is a rarity.

Professions

Most of the higher class are involved in the ownership of various magical laboratories and/or schools in El'vhen or elsewhere in Mélemardor. There are a handful of powerful casters who have made their fortune under unknown circumstances, but, even so, no longer have need to work. They tend to keep to themselves in their citadels while occasional hiring adventures to further their personal studies.   The middle class of El'vhen work as low level professors and magical artifact creators. While they can make a good living for their families, the owners are the ones who take most of the profit as well as keeping the higher magical secrets to themselves.   The lower class try to make a living in the more "normal" areas of society such as bakers, cooks, janitors, servants, stable hands, and other needed jobs. It is hard to keep this kind of work here due to the high level of magic users who can use their gifts to accomplish these kinds of simple tasks with little to no time or effort. This does force some lower class citizens to sell themselves into slavery in order to survive.

Government

El'vhen, and all of Mélemardor, is ruled by the Council of Mélemardor. This a group of elves that are chosen by the elite of El'vhen to be the deciding factor in all government decisions. However, the exact identities of council members is unknown and there hasn't been an election or appointment in over a century.

Infrastructure

El'vhen has many magical replacements for common forms of infrastructure. Most seem power sources seem to revolve around hovering crystals that are somehow imbued with magical energy. This energy manifests according to runes attached the crystals. If charged with an appropriate amount of magic, the crystals could do everything from removing waste to preforming construction. They do not come without risk as overcharged crystals are know to have unforeseen effects or even to violently explode! These crystals range from pouch sized that are carried by citizens of El'vhen to giant crystals ominously hovering over the top of citadels.
