Those who don't climb fences

Deep in the Forest Amma, the forest of death, came a creature tough enough that all other's feared it.   Ten feet tall without it's crouch, white all over, skin and bones. eyes, huge black saucers, said to be portals to the underworld. Walking almost upright on all fours. Back legs, short and crooked, ending with hooves. Front legs, long and thin ending in points which stab into the ground to maintain balance. These creatures are slow, and unstable at anything more then a slow saunter.   In Zenna, there are only two reasons you survive. You are too strong to be killed by magic, or posses too much magic for the strong.   Those who don't climb fences are the latter. They only have a need to eat about once every 30 to 90 days. Their main source of nutrition being being brain cells, the more developed and complex the mind, the more long lasting energy they have, making those with complex thoughts, languages ideas the ideal prey. Something like a dog would be empty calories, something like a humanoid, now there's a nutritious meal.   Having a nature to prefer solitude, they mostly reside alone living their lives in caves and taking care of their territory. Most their lives often revolve around carefully planning their next meal, while figuring who in the village of their choice won't be missed.   Widows, orphans, and single adults.   As complex creatures of strategy and wit they know just how to use their dark gift. after the consumption of a bright mind they know every thought their victim ever thought, every person they knew, every inside joke, feeling, every family pet and secret desire. As long as that mind is being strung through their digestive track they have this information.   This paired with their ability to read and mimic DNA of their dinner, builds them the perfect disguise inside and out. With the face, body and mind of the person they are digesting, they set about dismantling the deceased's life and straightening out their affairs for them. They have 30 to 90 days to do this before needing a new meal, and passing the old.   "I'm moving away" - or better yet, pick someone they can find who no one will miss.   Some get wrapped up in communities, genuinely caring for family members of loved ones they have consumed. Loving the gossip, caring for a family they know intimate details about and eating their enemies. These are those who live to eat.   Then there are those who eat to live. These creatures eat who will be missed least so they can go about their solitude lives.   Their only weakness, they can't climb fences.
