Nadjam Zhaqit - the Fallen Star

The Fallen Star is believed to be a cursed stone that caused the great crater that forms Subhas Oasis lake. It is written that the stone was much larger when it was sent by the gods to bring Zami Ramal from the depths of the sea to its current height above sea level.
Tuban, the Sea Serpent lived beneath the waters of the Ancient Ocean and controlled the lands of the sea bed. Tunin, the Sky Dragon challenged Tuban to a duel and threw stars down upon the face of the waters. One star fell with such force that the sea waters flew away, leaving Tuban to die in the dry desert sands, coiled around the remnant of the star that destroyed his world.
— Bakar, The Emerald Seer

A careful study of the stone over the centuries since its discovery at Subhas Oasis has revealed many strange properties.
  1. The stone radiates warmth from the metallic parts, yet the mineral part is always cool.
  2. Small iron pieces such as nails and pins are attracted to the stone from a distance of two feet away.
  3. The stone glows in the dark and appears bright to those viewing it with darkvison.

There have been attempts over the years by thieves and ambitious mages to steal the stone from the library and wield its mysterious powers but none has succeeded. It is said that Tunin watches over the stone, to ensure that the land is always parched and the seas never return.

Significance

An artefact believed to be many millennia old, sent by Tunin to destroy the seas. It is viewed as cursed and ill-favoured, and so is kept in the vaults of the Great Library of Hajdib. There, the stone is studied by only the most venerated scholars and high-ranking artisans and alchemists.

It has been found that the metals and minerals that compose the Fallen Star are not found anywhere else in Zami Ramal. The metallic parts are shiny and untarnished and not pliable. The mineral is as dense as quartz, slightly translucent and cool to the touch.
