Naming Traditions

A child is referred to only as "Ag-Tir" until they reach the age of 3, where they are given a tribal name, which are only used by members of the tribe, and close friends. When they reach the age of 10 they choose a travelling name, one to be used with strangers and acquaintances.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship often involves sparring repeatedly for a month, and then a trip into the wilds with nothing but a knife and each other.

The groups of them are at a tribal level, but some of them have traded for useful technological items when they get the chance.

They all speak a language known as Scordes, which shares some similarities to the Xertian language.

There is a tradition of using acid to mark a warrior's chitin after a great hunt or battle.
Whenever a large surplus of food is gathered, there is a stop to all the work in the tribe and a feast is held.

History

These people are a mystery to the world. They appeared after the Division, wondering the deserts of Xertz in tribes. Their own legends offer little explanation besides mentions of a curse that created them.

Common Myths and Legends

Each tribe has a legend about how their kind came into existence, but each tribe has a different tale. The only common thread among each and every version, is that the original Scortet's came about through a curse.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While mostly solitary, this is due to their nomadic lifestyles, and not to hostility towards outsiders. They will trade with outsiders, and there have been cases of outsiders even being accepted into their tribes.
There are a few tribes that are more hostile towards outsiders, but they are few.

Desert Lifestyle

Scortet are used to living in harsh conditions, and thanks to that, they can get by with eating and drinking only every two days. They also have advantage on any checks made to find food and water in the desert.

Sting of the Sands

One of the defining characteristics of the Scortet are their stingers. A Scortet's stinger is an unarmed attack, with which they are considered proficient, that deals 1 piercing damage and 1d6 poison damage on a hit. They also have resistance to poison damage.
