The Sacred City of Sonis
In the Shadow of the Creators
The Sacred City of Sonis is the largest city on Zaepheria and the governing hub of the Consecrated Alliance. It the site of the signing of the Radiant Accord as well as the site of the climactic battle known as the Crucible of the Fallen in which the broken forces of the Divine armies unified under the banner of the newly formed Consecrated Alliance and gained their first major victory that would turn the tide of the War of Sedition.
The defining feature of this city is its multi-level design. The majority of the City is built atop the Suncrest Plateau, the monumental rise that dominates most of the eastern portion of the Shadow's Fall Lowlands. At the base of the plateau, farmlands extend outward for nearly a mile in every direction until they reach the Godshield Wall that surrounds that encircles the entire plateau. The third and final level is the hovering island Light's Rest which contains primarily buildings used by the Consecrated Alliance and some residences of wealthy nobles with ties to the church. It is also home to the Opalescent Citadel, the gleaming fortress that is used for training the Pentarch Paladin Corps, the Alliance's most elite military force and for the Archbishop council of the Alliance to hold their meetings. It is also where the residences of the Oracle, a servant chosen by the divines to be their voice on Zapheria. The Oracle acts as the swing vote if the 12 Archbishops reach an impasse and also communes with the divines regularly and offers guidance to the faithful.
Demographics
Humans have a slight majority here but overall the city is a melting pot of all races. The most uncommon being dark elves, Orcs, and other monster races
Government
The Consecrated alliance has overwhelming power here and are for the most part widely loved and accepted
Infrastructure
The Godshield Wall that completely encircles the plateau and the fields that surround it. The roads that lead from the gate houses to the base of the plateau are constructed primarily of cobblestone. Dirt roads wind off of them in various directions and connect the roads to the small farming communities that are sprawled throughout the interior fields. As the cobblestone roads reach the base o the plateau it transitions into a smooth chiseled stone that has been carved into the side of the plateau as it winds its way slowly up the sides. As the road makes its way to the top and reaches the main gates of the city the chiseled stone transitions into a fine paved brick that continues into the walls of the city.
