Shirashi's Star

Shirashi's Star, also known as the Goddess' constellation, is a collection of stars in the shape of a dragon, often believed to be the Divine Mother herself. When no shrines are available, the people of Seiryuu often pray to this constellation in seek of her guidance.   Every three months, the Goddess' constellation begins to burn in the sky on the eve of the new moon. On that night, the stars come to life, sending a shishajya (messenger serpent) to greet the Seiryan people and share the will of the Goddess Shirashi herself.

History

Few Seiryan histories from before the time of the Goddess remain, but the few that do speak of what we today know as the Goddess' Constellation. Even before her arrival our people were spiritual by nature, worshipping celestial bodies, calling to their power for strength and good fortune. They took to her serpentine shape in the sky, praising her, some even building shrines in her honour.   An old myth remains from that time, too: The Child of Stars, a tale about a young girl named Hoshi whose love for the stars surpassed all others. As she grew up, the many tribes inhabiting Seiryuu in those times turned to war, her family getting caught in the middle. She prayed to the Goddess' constellation for the safety of her brothers and sisters, for the end of the fighting.   It is said that she prayed with all her heart and summoned the Goddess herself along the shores of the Kin Sea--the waters that turned gold from when the Goddess arrived that night, draped in the light of the sun and stars. She granted Hoshi's wish, blessing the little girl with a fraction of her power, the life force of the earth itself. And with it, she ended the fighting, at least for a time.   Later, if the stories are true, Hoshi became the first Empress of Seiryuu, worshipped almost as much as the dragon that slipped from the stars.
