The Arcaneum Federation

The Arcaneum Federation

They consider themselves gods in their own rights, arguing that "magic is an art that should be practiced freely and without restriction", so long as you follow all of their restrictions. Aoibhinn Latriaere,
The Arcaneum Federation is a governmental body controlling much of the territory on the continent of Aegiyari. The Federation is comprised of five distinct member nations, four of which have their own national government that is able to operate with a degree of autonomy. The fifth nation, Ichos, is the founding nation of the Federation and lacks a separate government. Instead, the Grand Magistral Court of the Federation also operates as a national government.

History

During the Age of Transcendance, a religious order known as the Church of the Arcane in Ichos began to see a swell in membership. As it became increasingly more common to question the nature of religion and divinity, the Church of the Arcane was seen as the logical conclusion to those questions. At its core, the Church was centered around the idea of worship being reserved for the very nature of magic itself, as opposed to any specific gods or pantheons. In place of clerics, the Church employed wizards and sorcerers trained to mimic their powers and provide healing of a different variety.

Military

The Arcaenum Federation's standing military is unique in both its size relative to the population, as well as its composition. Despite having a population of 1.1 billion people, the Federation only maintains a standing defensive force of roughly 26,000 soldiers, with an additional 15,000 available on reserves, making it the single smallest defensive force held by any nation. Despite its shortcomings, however, the structure of the Federation's armed forces provide some compensation for its size. Of its 41,000 soldiers, 24,000 of them are battlemages. In contrast, within most conventional militaries, battlemages comprise only seven to ten percent of their total fighting force.
