--Note-- The people of Yria use an octal numeral system, so all of the mentioned numbers are base 8. For better understanding the same value in the decimal system is added in parentheses. The decimal system is used whenever it comes to dates that should show on the timeline. --End of Note--   Yria is the world surrounding the Mye, the infinite river. It's end is it's origin, as it flows in a circle around the blue sun Toru in an ellipsoid orbit. The world itself rotates around the Mye, changing it's position in relation to the star and thus creating day and night. About 40 (32) Days make a short, 10 (8) shorts an Octat and 10 (8) of those are a stretch. The cycle of an octat is oriented on the life stages of the fish species Avelia. The first short is called phoenix and lasts 41 (33) days. Then follows zeppelin with only 34 (28) days. The next short is chrysalis with 44 (36) days. After that comes mariposa, 40 (32) days. The short safara has 37 (31) days. Meduse lasts for 44 (36) days. Then follows the short dandelion with 37 (31) days. Finally, mona has 40 (32) days.   Yria consists of 16 expanses (also called "plains" or "fields"), which are connected only by the Mye. They differ in shape and size and each has an unique set of vegetation and animal kingdom. The human is the sole species to have populated all fields but Chuqe, where the atmosphere is poisonous. Mye-living fish1 of course are the exception, they are not plain-bound2. Most birds could not overcome the distance of a whole segment. Those that could usually have no desire to do so, since they tend to prefer the southern low-magic areas.   Travelling upstream is possible, but not easy and dangerous on top of that. Back sailing people fall ill, and sooner or later die, which is why it's unadvised to go back more than one, max 2 expanses. Most bypass those tribulations by travelling downstream, even if they want only on field back (also a trip 15 fields downstream is way cheaper than one field up, assumed the captain is ready to do that at all). A whole circumnavigation on an average ship takes roughly a short per expanse and in total about 770 (504) days - so roughly 2 means.     Yria is saturated with magic. Like everything it travels along the infinite river and gets weaker, the farther south one goes. This is why all the way down you find civilizations of magic fearing or hating people, while those practicing it - warlocks and sorcerers - settle as close to the river as possible. Upon approaching the edge of a field, time slows down. Many believe, that there is a reverse river at the point where time stands still, but nobody can ever reach it. This idea is so old that people from various expanses believe in it. The names of this river, however, are plenty. Odyle, Udyl, Myana, Illsn are some examples.   No matter which field you regard, the direction toward the Mye is defined as "North" while the opposite course is "South". The directions parallel to the river are called "upstream" and "downstream".   1 In Yria terms like "fish" and "bird" do not refer to a scientific class but rather are general terms for animals that swim or fly, respectively.     2 There are a few fish, that generally live in an innerplain river, but travel out in the Mye at a certain stage of their life cycle. Very rarely there are findings of those individuums, in another field than their original, that probably travelled there by themselves.
