T'alyu

The T'alyu… Are an interesting bunch. They value honour, bravery, combat prowess and above all, no subservience to other races. They are not quick to trust strangers but see value in mutual cooperation. Despite being in constant war, they are inherently at peace with their tide in life. They do not seek to expand, they do not seek to conquer. They seek to preserve their past and ensure their future.   Purity and strength are held in high regards in their culture. Those who succumb to disease are shunned, no one sees them or talks to them, and they are left to die. Those who defeat disease however are welcomed back once they have completed the rite of returning.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The T'alyu have 4 upper body limbs and a number of tentacle like appendages. The tentacle appendages do not appear to have any strength to them but rather act to help balance the T'alyu. They have 2 lower body limbs which they put to great effect when running. It is currently unknown whether their armour is attached to their skin after birth or if it grows naturally. Generally speaking, their muscles are strong but tight as opposed to overtly large.

Growth Rate & Stages

From speaking with the T'alyu, their spawn is quick growing, rushing to adulthood where their metabolism begins to slow down and their growth rate falls away. It is suggested that their may be stages of growth that is reflected in their armour.

Ecology and Habitats

The optimal environment for the T'alyu is mainly one composed of hills, cliffs, sand and other places where their distinct balance offers them a competitive advantage over other species. Generally speaking, they hunt during the daytime, and consume their quarry in the evening.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They do not grow any food and live off a diet purely of that which is killed. It is considered to be a great dishonour in consuming that which has been made subservient to others, be it agriculture, livestock, or slave species. Only that which was fought for, that which was hunted, is an honourable food to eat. They are happy to eat the food raw, though are known to stockpile and prepare great feasts from their quarry.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They tend to live in groups that operate similar to tribes in the old World. These tribes are then united under the strength of larger groups leading to a formation of kingdoms where each village is independent but also recognises the leadership of the strongest tribe in the region.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Appears to have no trouble seeing in the dark, even without a moon. Their hearing seems to have a deeper range than that of Humans. They talk of having a connection to the Bloodmoon that allows them to sense its rise and fall.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Their last names relate to the tribe they come from, for example X of Drylantor.

Major Organizations

The T'alyu believe in co-operation, between empires and tribes. These tend to be overseen by representatives of all major kingdoms meeting on The Bloodied Council.   Matters of religion and recovery of artifacts is overseen by The Hall of Sages.

Beauty Ideals

Strength is the greatest asset in the beauty of a T'alyu, They are expected to be able to hunt for themselves, and survive anything. To have no fear of death or pain.

Gender Ideals

Their are no genders for the T'alyu.

Average Technological Level

Their technological expertise is limited. They search for the ancients ways and laws, but the technology they find is oft not put to its best use.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

They are known to conduct many rituals, such as the Blood Exchange Ritual which is meant to be used to reach an understanding between two T'alyu, however it has also been used to gain the abilities of other species. Powerful T'alyu will often use this ritual to bestow favours to the warriors that follow them.

History

Their known history begins around 2000 years after The Great War, where it is said the great leader A'paK'ylte united a group of beings, rising from the ashes of the ruin into a coherent tribe that began to rebuild and conquer. This group composed of some of the children of The Ancients, those which the race had created in their effort to rid the world of the Old Gods. From here, this group spread and hunted and grew, following on from the remnants of what the ancients taught them. From here they soon realised they were missing a lot from what the ancients taught them or that they had conflicting ideas on some key aspects. And thus they began their mission to recover the knowledge that they lost.

Common Myths and Legends

T'alyu afterlife - They are not too dissimilar to the Xor in this respect in that they believe they go down the great spirit river, their soul combining with it, except for the T'alyu it goes on until it reaches what can only be described as a waterfall into oblivion. For the T'alyu, death is a battle to swim against the current and deny oblivion, until their spirit strength is too sapped to continue to do so, much like their body gave up fighting. their solace is that in oblivion they are joined with all the other dead, mixed together, no longer individuals, but instead just "the dead". Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The T'alyu are in a bitter and constant war with the Jinhai. This war has gone on for many generations and appears to be a continuation or a copying of the The Great War.   The T'alyu have great respect for the Xor, seeing them as a glimpse, or remnant of the power of the ancients. This respect means that any Xor in a T'alyu owned territory is generally treat close to a hero or legend.
