The Obsidian Emperor

Though He may deny it, He is a God amongst men, A liberator of the enslaved, and a beacon to lead mankind beyond the veil of Chaos. - Unkown
Emperor Sigmar, or more often known as the Obsidian Emperor, founder of the newly formed Sigmarite Dynasty, and First Emperor of the Southlands. Once a former slave of the The Infernal Gargants, Sigmar overthrew his former masters and led his people from the Golden Valley, to conquer a majority of the Southlands and form one of the first Human-led empire in nearly 1000 years. Worshiped by many as a God amongst men, Sigmar has led the south through an almost revolutionary change, creating a contiguous nationstate the size of which so far has only been matched by the Great Elven empires of several centuries before.

Rise To Power

The man now known as Sigmar was born into nothing. A slave to the Dragon Lords of the Golden Valley, he should have lived and died a faceless name like the millions of other who have been born and died in servitude deep within the Gold Mines of the nearly inhospitable Valley. It is told by scribes in the south that Sigmar was the child of a miner and a cook, and before taking the name Sigmar, as we now him by now, was simply called Altai as a Child. It is said that Altai was robust and strong even from a young age. Like most children born into the Golden Valley, he was forced to work the mines from a very young age. As he grew older, it was clear that Altai was brighter and craftier than many of his peers, and was beat often for numerous escape attempts before he was even a teen. One of these escape attempts, found the young Altai reaching the Black Stone Fortress, called Ates Ollum, at the Crest of the Golden Valley, a feat that had never been attempted, let alone succeeded.

It was here, at the cursed citadel far above the hell he was forced to call home, that Altai saw for the first time the beast they were forced to call master. The Foul Black Dragon known as Sigmar the Scourge, last of his line of a long lineage of once proud men who had been cursed to suffer forever as Dragons that could not die. While he should not have survived this meeting with the foul master of the Golden Valley, something stayed his hand and Altai was spared, a mistake that would have world altering consequences. Instead of death, Altai was beaten by the Scourges Guards, fellow slaves, tortured, and then left to bake in the brutal sun of the valley for 12 days, being kept just on the brink of death as a lesson to never ascend the valley again.

After nearly a month of torture, Altai was released back into the slave pits of the valley, and from that day forward planned his revenge. He planned revenge not just for himself, but for all his people, even those who had beaten him ragged and tortured him at the Scourges behest. For five years, Altai continued to slave away in the mines, always plotting his revenge, yet keeping his head down till the time was right. While unconfirmed, it is said that during this time, Altai had settled down and started a family with a fellow slave and, for a time, nearly forgotten about his burning desire for revenge and liberation. Whether this is true or not, we know that the fires of liberation burned hot in Altais heart, and his faited journey was commenced 5 years to the day of his first journey to Ates Ollum.

The Pilgrimage throught the Golden Valley

After 5 years of waiting, Altai was visited by a strange robed man, a ghost some descibe him as, who wispered of a lonely black hill, at the edge of the Golden Valley. Rumours of this black hill had circulated throughout the slave population of the valley for years, and it was said to house several withces, sisters of tremendous power who hated the Infernal Gargants. While Altai intially had been aprehensive about visiting this supposed witches, he eventually set out through the valley at the behest of his fellow slaves. The journey throught the valley was long and ardous, the sun an unrelenting force that made travel during the day brutal and slow. While the golden valley had a long winding river running down the center of it, it was supposedly cursed like the rest of the valley, and offered very little in the way of nourishment to those that drank it. By night, Altai was forced to fend off many of the foul beasts that also called the valley home. Altai pushed onwards despite all this, and after 12 days reached the Sisters Black Hill.

Little is known about what occured in the Black Hill of the Sisters other than what has been describe by Altai himself.

There in the witches grasp I was shown everything. A thousand futures and one, all of which foretold the utter destruction of mankind. For three days I was shown the fate of the world and I watched it die time and again. I suffered a million deaths till I found the one future where mankind would fight off the darkness, and the one future I now embark upon to create.
