Calladan Purgis

Calladan Purgis (255 2e- 750-3e was one of the last living members of the high elven Twilight Council, and ruler of the city of Agartha and the Vallorick province before the fall of the Yuanma empire. Purgis ruled over the Vallorick province for the last 200 years of the empires history, and led a number of brutal reforms, several of which can be directly connected to the start of the Vallandar revolt that doomed Agartha to its current fate. It is said that Purgis had predicted the decline of the Yuanman empire, and his final years were spent attempting to find any means at preventing collapse and, in his eyes, saving his people. His efforts however were unsuccessful, and at the height of the Vallandar Revolt, the city of Agartha was brought to ruin and Purgis with it.

History

Calladan Purgis was born in the early days of the Yuanman empires construction. A distant of the Great Lord Kalieda, Purgis was born amongst Yuan royalty and from a young age was schooled in the ways of the Court of the Sun. Purgis was taught the ways of administration, diplomacy, and high arts, as opposed to the martial skills and soldiering. He took to the administrative arts quickly, and showed great promise, but even from a young age many noticed something was off about the child. Purgis was prone to violent mood swings, sleeping fits, and sometimes long spells of distant and incoherent behaviors. As a child it is said he often had dreams of hellfire and doom, plagues and darkness, and as some sources say, even the death of the mortal world. It was understood that Purgis had a rare Elven disease named the Korakuri Sickness, a vestigial disease that came from the the Yuanma home plane. Luckily for Purgis, Korakuri was not a fatal disease, and after several years he even seemed to have been cured of it.

By young adulthood, Purgis having gone through years of administrative training, travelling throughout the empire, and the typical life of lesisure that afforded Yuanma higher class, was said to have grown bored of his current station and begun to study the arcane arts. Studying with many of the Yuan masters in the City of Spires, Purgis was quickly seen to be somewhat of a prodigy. In no time he mastered several forms of Yuan magics, and even begun to reach out to forms practiced by some of the other races who had taken up home withing the Empires capitol.

The Death of Purgis

For years, Purgis had warned everyone he could of the coming doom of the Yuanma people. Most of his colleagues laughed it off as the ravings of a madman, it being widely known that the symptoms of Korakuri had reemerged in his late life. Yet Prugis would be vindicated around 750 3e with the total destruction of the Twilight Council, and the massive purge within the CIty of Spires. At the same time, the Vallandar had begun to rise up against Purgis' rule, and had one by one taken the Sisters, the great fortress cities of the Vallorick planes.

In the years preceding, Purgis began conducting foul experiments deep beneath his great Pearled tower, to find any way to save his people. Mass sacrifices were commenced witihin his city, supposedly in an attempt to reopen the great portal that had once deposited the Yuanma in this world. When that failed he sought ways to strengthen the magical abilities of his fellow mages using vile acts of widespread torture and abuse against the citizens of Agartha. He beleived that pain could be used as a catalyst to unlock more avenues of magical energy that could be used to irradicate the Vallandar race. And when those failed, he began experiments to turn his people into something greater than their current forms.

To Purgis, the fall of his peoples empire was simply a prelude to something far worse, centuries of darkness and pain, and eventually the destruction of all the mortal races of the world. To prepair for this, Purgis believed that he had to help the Yuanma ascended to a greater form of being. The Yuanma needed to evolve beyond their current biology in order to resemble something closer to Godhood, and only then be able to survive the coming apocalypse. These experiments led to the creation of the first Orks, the newest of the mortal races, and as many see it, the final failure of Calladan Purgis.

Purgis' fate was finally sealed in Eyla, 750 3e. Very little is known about the true events of the fall of Agartha, but the final days of the cities exitence were filled with blood and death. The city had been beseiged for nearly three months by the Vallandar, and in the last final days had finally been cracked by the Vallandar army. It is said that three days of pillaging and looting was commenced in the once great city. On the third day however, something catostrophic happened. Sources descibe a great crack of lighting crashing into the Great Pearled tower in the center of the city. Following that, the entire city began to shake, a terrible storm blew in and, as many tell it, blood red rain fell from the sky, coating everything in a thick bloody mist. Then, the city itself began to sink into the ground, taking with it citizen and invader alike. Those who survived claim that it was all the wokr of Purgis himself, who had shuttered himself deep within his tower in the final days and had casting a dark ritual to bring the city itself down on the invaders.

No one has ever seen or heard from Purgis since those days before the collape, and it assumed that he died with the city. Despite this, there are whispers abound that the man still lives, deep within the ruins of the city, still working on ways to ascend to Godhood and wreak havok on the world that betrayed him. While this is but a rumor, The ruins of Agartha still crawl with Orks, some recently born, and there are some Vallandar who claim to have heard voices deep within the ruins of that ancient city.
