Ice Lion

Ice Lions are the most feared creatures in Yeia. Its skin can only be pierced by magic weapons like lava spears, or weapons with anti-armour capabilities. These creatures live in the frozen regions of the continent of Teria; in the Albine mountains, Witharfia and the realms of the nords. For centuries they were considered evil creatures and product of some corrupted magic and were hunt nearly to its extinction or used as entertainment in the hunting competitions held in Ikarian and Blatian amphitheatres. Today between 1500-2000 specimens remain in the continent, thus seeing them is very rare.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ice lions have the same shape as common lions and  Ilidari . The main difference is that their whole body is covered in ice and their eyes tend to be blue. 

Genetics and Reproduction

Gestation is the same as common lions (roughly 110 days), the period of mating is usually autumn or winter, when ice lions are more active.  

Ecology and Habitats

Ice Lions live in the coldest regions in Teria, the western continent. They usually inhabit the snowy plains of the north or big snowed mountains. In the cold regions close to the most temperate ones, when summer arrives Ice lions retire to the interior of caves where they can stay cold and sleep until autumn arrives. They need to do that because if they experience a bit of heat, they have the risk of melting.

Ice lions usually live in packs that wonder the frozen plains and the valleys of the highest mountain ranges. A difference between common lions and ice lions is that both males and females hunt together while the oldest individuals of the group protect the cubs.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ice lions are carnivorous and great predators. They usual meal consists of wild goats, deer, sheep and if they are extremely hungry they can even try attacking bears, as they are protected by its skin.

They can also attack and kill humans (if they are not careful enough bringing magical weapons) , usually crossing across their territory, but human flesh is something that they seem to dislike.

Biological Cycle

They biological cycle is superior to common lions, with a lifespan of 200 years.  An ice lion is considered an adult when he is 50-60 years old.  As they got older the more ice spikes appear on their skin, but also the smaller their teeth are.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sense of smell and sight is great as with other felines, and they are actually quite good runners, not as good as cheetahs but still quite fast, ideal for hunting their fastest prey.
