the toxic planet

as the hazmat team left the safety of the sealed room, they began to test the environment that the EXEDOUS1 had landed on. among them, the enginesmith was swearing his head off. he had calculated that the atmosphere was so toxic, it would be lethal to in hail one breath of it so all repairs would have to take place in hazmat suits. he had also calculated that the amount of air they had would not be sufficient to complete the required repairs. they only had enough air to repair enough to get to the nearest system. as he went inside he looked at the planet that he was on and thought about how lucky humans where to inhabit the beautiful blob of water and mud. unlike earth, this place was full of squelching mud made of rock and acid, sulpher volcanoes and extreme temperatures.   as repairs commenced, captain danzek sat on the bridge and contemplated the situation. as he thought, a blip appeared on his radar. it was from a planet not far away. upon closer examination it was a planet of space faring aliens whose systems where based on energy, not biology. they used photosynthesis for energy and had a vast network of satellites, settlements and a massive population. he sent out a homing beacon and received the following transition:we are sending aid, we come in peace. prepare your airlocks. and so he waited...
