Wind Lords
Wind Lords.
The ruling class of Xumlandia they are rich, powerful, highly skilled and often conceited. They have no close friends.Bio:
These are bird people. They have a mostly human shape to them but they posses talons at all four extremities and are adept at using their legs as arms (and vice versa). Their heads are always that of a bird and normally they are fully clothed – including boots – but beneath their clothes they are mostly human in form. They posses a unique knee joint that allows them to use their legs much the way a normal bird would or the way a human would. Wind Lords can fly – their wing spans are significant – but never has anyone seen where the wings actually come from. Wing Lords have been seen without a shirt on, but then they have always been without wings, and the same Wind Lord has later been seen with wings. It remains a mystery.Habitat:
The Wind Lords live across the globe, but almost always in the same habitat: a tall peak of some kind that is very difficult to reach from the ground. They will not select a peak that is within reach of arrows and will normally select a high vantage point with little cover around them. With their outstanding vision the lack of surrounding cover is a security measure. Normally their dwellings are airy and light with what would appear to be lots of ventilation, yet these places are never cold. They construct buildings of wood, glass, metal and even stone (the latter almost exclusively in cities) and attempt to ensure that there is only one way into a dwelling. Wind Lords have several settlements and cities, but there are a few that are particularly important:- AerieThor. This is the ‘Queen City’ – the second largest city of the Wind Lords, and represents its primary militia. With a host of ‘War Eagles’ and their sharpest military minds they are the nerve center which controls the network of Atolls across the globe.
- AerieOdin. The Capitol city of the Wind Lords, this is where the governing body meets and laws are cast down.
- AerieFreya. This is the arts and library center of the Wind Lords which is located at the top of The Mount.
- AerieSif & AerieBalder. This huge split city is where they watch the Ice Belt.
- AerieHel. Criminals are held here, tortured here and killed here. This is the only city that is as active at night as it is in the day, and it overlooks Shadow Valley on one side. Where AerieThor is the home of the military, AerieHel is the home of the police.
Global Politics
Most of the globe recognizes them as the reigning superpower due to their militant disposition and their ability to control clouds and lightning. They will at times accept a request for council if it is accompanied by a tribute or payment, but that is rare. As fighters they are extremely adept at close combat; this is unexpected for an aerial race. Their true military power is from the sky and with the arrow, particularly from the clouds.
- Allies: They tend to react coolly to most other civilizations and ally themselves with no one staunchly. They will trade with Dragonelles and Humans and are respectful of Timberfolk, although they do eat on some sects of Timberfolk (known as Preyfolk) upon occasion. Dragonelles are too peaceful for the Wind Lords liking, but the natural relationship to Dragons commands the respect of the Wind Lords. The one Human Nation-City that has their respect is Masada due to the proficiency of their warriors.
- Adversaries: The one race that holds no fear (and very little respect) for the Lords are the Merasaurs. With their aquatic habitat and lifestyle there is no threat from the wind born birds, and with their boastful demeanor they are a foil to the prideful Lords. Niderians despise the Lords and there have been conflicts between the two. They have attempted to lay siege to several settlements and capitol cities but their allergy to water has almost always lead to their downfall.
Languages
Wind Lords are conversant in almost every language found in the world, but are most often known to use the following:
- Worldspeak. A fairly common language that almost all can read and speak.
- Avian. Much like song birds they converse across miles.
- Timber: All avian Variants, Wolf and Boar.
Personality
Most Wind Lords view themselves as aristocratic and often (though not always) look down on other races. While they may feel that they are being gracious on the rare occasions that they walk among other races they are often viewed as boastful and conceited blowhards. They do not kill for sport and tend not to be cruel, but they will not hesitate to kill in defense – especially if their opponent has been warned. By the same token they will kill to feed their party and at times can have a voracious appetite. To them vision is wisdom, and they have the most gifted sense of sight on the globe. While they address fellow Lords by name and/or rank they only allow other races to address them by Lord + species, Lord Falcon or Lord Peregrine for example. They will almost NEVER go underground because of their hatred and fear of Niderians. In a party they will often appoint themselves leader, but they remain aloof. They are outstanding Archers and light swordsmen (wielding four at a time) and skilled hunters, but they are not the most supreme trackers the world has ever seen. While they have not been known to wield magic there is no known reason why they cannot. They travel light and wear light (but often expensive) clothing.
Abilities
Each Wind Lord has the following powers mandatory
- Flight. True flight with wings; able to travel great distances at a greater speed than horse travel. These wings also fold into nothingness & appear when needed. Base cost: 6
- Enhanced sight. They are able to see anywhere from 100-1600yd/20ft. 1 point for 100/20 vision; additional point = double range with a max 5.
- Prehensile Feet. When on the ground they can use their feet (talons) as hands. Base 1.
Aspects
What follows is the base set of aspects at a cost of one point each.
- Arrogant Aristocrat. They are the ruling class of the world and tend to be a stuck up bunch. Invoke: Telling the quality of the cloth. Compel: I wouldn’t let that touch my beak!
- Lightning Lord. Lightning lords are quick to navigate their way from the air, have a better understanding of the world and especially in affairs applying to Lightning Lords. They also take offense to slurs against their race and often expect others to be subservient of them. Timber folk are particularly susceptible to this attitude; Merasaurs are effectively immune to this attitude. Invoke: Attempting to gain information from Timber Folk. Compel: These creatures are beneath me!
