XOA 5: Giants Among Us

The campaign is undergoing some growth, check it out in this Prelude to Arc 5.

The Team receives a clear mission... and a deadly enemy.

For Debreu and Paradigm, after entering into the Thuseus Echo realm (the current “dimensional realm” they’ve just entered after escaping the titan), Messenger informs them that they are fighting a foe called The Blight. They will have to gain four objects of power in this realm, four Anchors and that they would receive help.   For Knight Polidrox Gold, he’s been instructed by the CIA that there are some warriors who are making headway in finding out more about the Blight and that he is to assist them while watching their vanguard.

“Realm” Travel and info on Thuseus Echo

As mentioned before, the various locations that the characters are travelling through are a group of connected “Realms” which are in various stages of loss with only one thing in common: they are victims of The Blight. The realms, once entire worlds, are “echoes” of what they once were, The Blight rendering them burned out husks in their corporeal reality and the “remnant” of what they once were is somehow projected and anchored here on the Astral, a mere shade of their former power and life.

Scenario 1: Dust to Dust.

The mission is to remove the four Anchors of the Realm. Their mission is cut short, however, when they find themselves Fighting the Feeder, a situation that really puts the mission in jeopardy and they return to Freeport.

Scenario 2: Queen of the Red Hearts.

Settling back into Freeport business, they agree with Triple A that they need a way to access the Realm, independent of Paradigm. He and Mark Hall create Cutie (the Quantum Dimensional Translation Crystal) with several keys. Coming up to speed on what's been happening, their investigations turn up a number of items of interest, notably that the Yellow Sigil and the Annular Necrocacy are somehow tied to the Blight and that Taramon is a member of a Secret Cult. They "wander" into the path of the Queen of Red Hearts, a master vampire who was about to re-invade this realm and free Son-la, the angel being held by the "queen" vampire, which was giving her access to great power.

In Scenario 3: Bug Hunt,

the characters manage to stop a "Bug" - a giant spider-type extradimensional invader from entering Bloodsalt by creating an "anteroom" to meet and fight it. It wasn't alone, however, as an one of the alchemists had been infected by an intellect devourer and was assisting it. They turn the devourer over to the Archmage of the Red Wind, aka Big Red, of the Wizard's Guild, whom they befriend. However, Taramon the Shrewd (as he is called by his not too vocal enemies), who is also on the city council, puts forth the idea that the Team may be somewhat responsible for these new happenings and suggests that they can be of use by allowing themselves to be deployed as the Monster Patrol. Paradigm creates a Convergence Detector and while on patrol, Paradigm almost unleashes Armaggedon or some equivalent while fighting some lady orcs. They convince the Wizard's Guild and the Freeport Council that all help could break loose at any moment and they agree to create the Great Salt Gate utilizing an incredibly powerful spell engine requiring the help of the Wizard's Guild.

Scenario 4: If You Build It...

The Great Salt Gate is quickly seen as a resource of incredible potential and the wrangling begins. Three factions form, vying for control of the Gate - the Council, the Wizards, and the Adventurers - who quickly gain the high ground with the direct support of the Team. It's decided that a fortification is to be built around the Gate with most of the building being done by the residents of Bloodsalt who are, at least temporarily, out of a job. The cost for the fortification will be split amongst the factions. With Debreu's nudging, Torya Irontooth decides to represent the non-human workers (who would most likely be greatly slighted without that representation). After discovering the Cursed Bricks of Redblade's Barracks, the Team narrowly diverts an attempt by Taramon to get hold of the bricks for himself.
