Suggested Opening Plot - Aetheria Online
The characters have recently gained a ship (though some or all may have been working together before that). Note that gaining a ship is not necessarily the same as owning the ship, though (with the expenditure of character elements) that certainly is possible. Without additional "investment" from the players (meaning parting with precious character elements such as Aspects and/or Stunts), the ship starts out basically as just one step above a junker - a no frills, small crew, basic beastie designed to get them to the next job.
The campaign starts out near the Royal Hegemony where elitist nobles are keeping things in check while trying to keep an innocent face. Well, maybe they are innocent and we just hate that elitist junk, but we'll see - as the campaign progresses.
We'll actually be on the border/frontier area called The Fringes.
The Setup
Mr. Benni Factor has given the characters a ship for a job well done. It's not the greatest ship in the aether, but it has potential. Their last successfully completed job landed them on the backwater world of Serenity and they've learned the hard way that it's better if they do their own work to keep her fueled and running. Going back to Mr. Benni Factor always entails the line, "No, no, I don't mind making sure you guys stay stocked and fueled. However, there's one little thing I need you to do/one little person I need you take somewhere/one little thing I need you to pick up..." These "little things" often involve security systems, bad weather, and avoiding the local fire mage. Right now they've got enough cash on hand to keep them running for a couple of jumps but when that runs out, where will they be and how will they get to somewhere else? Start Scenario with aspects: Just got paid, it's Friday night; Might not be too smart to stay parked right there. The next page, Characters and Starting Stuff, brings us to the good part, making characters - after we make a few decisions.Components
Goals
Get set up for the Next Job. An aethership has to eat!
Hooks
The previous job, though covert and successful, was not without certain... complications... and it wouldn't do to stay in-system more than a few days.
The characters always have the option of getting in touch with one of Mr. Benni Factor's numerous agents who always have an idea of what would help drop a bit of "pay" into their pockets.
Stakes
Staying substantially afloat.
