The dreaded Massive Misjump is the thing of legend. Unfortunately, few that have experienced them have either lived or returned to tell of them. They come in two flavors.
Random Destination
It doesn't happen often, but when it does it is
spectacular! The ship enters into the Jump Point with an extra burst of energy and winds up at a destination that is NOT it's originally intended destination.
Atomization
Perhaps the more merciful of the remaining two results, the ship is instantly atomized as energies of two different dimensions briefly struggle over who has rights to the ship. Unfortunately, they play rough, and POOF! fairy dust.
Lost In Space
Originally termed Misjump: Lost in Translation, it means just what it says. The only known survivors of a Misjump: Lost In Space happened to have a spellcaster who specialized in Stasis magics (part of the required studies for
Aether Shield tech), and he was able to redirect the remaining ship's
Aether Juice into a modified field which put the crew in a stasis. The journey to the nearest star - which, incredibly, was civilized - took 212 years.
Prior to the return of the Astral Star, it was theorized that such was happening, but unsubstantiated. Following the event, Lost In Space - the term, and the greatly fancified Telecast - became rather popular.
