Katrev Points and Lines

Katrev Points and Lines are anomalies in the Highspace interstellar travel phenomena which results in entire Jump Points or entrances to certain destinations within Jump Points being difficult to find.

Katrev Points

These are systems whose Jump Points are difficult to find. In effect, on the receiving end it looks like a Massive Misjump: Lost In Space with the difference that there is a Jump Point, it's just very hard to find.   They range in difficulty from 1 to 6; no higher difficulty Katrev point has been reported. [In game terms, this represents the difficulty of locating the Jump Point in the System]   Roughly 75% of systems with Katrev Points have only one Jump Point.   If a system with a Katrev Point has both Jump Points, then only one will allow exit from the system; the other will be the entry point.

Katrev Lines

Katrev Lines are Highspace entrances that are "hidden in plain sight." Functioning between two Jump Points that have other functioning, "legitimate" points, these are hard to find entrances which are there with the other openings. Thus, a system with a Katrev line may look like a Jump Point with 3 destinations, but in fact it may have 4 - with the 4th being difficult to locate.   They also have a rating of K1-K6.

Discovery

They were discovered by renowned explorer Katrev Katrev while initially lost in Vertak, the first system classified as having a Katrev object. Katrev became obsessed with finding and cataloging Katrev objects, and is credited with finding roughly 30% of the known Katrev objects.   History doesn't remember that Katrev Katrev was an average, if distracted, goblin helmsman who - like most of his brethren - had a knack for utilizing mystical engines and devices. When the Suluchekov apparently misjumped, after many, many days of frustrating boredom and essentially waiting to die, Katrev noticed what was apparently an anomaly from his sensing device. Upon further scrutiny, he had found the extradimensional anomaly that would come to bear his name. Working out the necessary calculations, the ship left the Vertak system and arrived back in known space. Noticing that the jump point that they had just used was not present, Katrev was able to locate the anomaly from this side of the jump line and with that discovery, Katrev Katrev became the best known goblin in modern history. He was given a knighthood, assigned a scouting vessel, and it became his life's work...
