In Xanthomir, access to stable medicine is limited to the wealthy. Infirmaries and medicinal scholars are incredibly expensive. The poor majority seek aid from temples and herbalists. Few alchemists possess the skills to heal bodily ailments and most are believed to use patients as experiments. Thus alchemists are largely avoided. Then there are the lucky few that cross paths with a traveling barber-surgeon. Most of these artisans are quite skilled and some will take on riskier but effective treatments that scholars wouldn't hear of. They'll often lower prices in exchange for other goods and services during their stay.
