Ancient Draconic

Although the world tried to snuff out the Draconic religion, it is now stronger and more vibrant than it has been for centuries, thanks to a united effort to restore what was once lost.   The Draconic religion is largely closed off to non Draconic, due to the importance of Dragon ancestry. Outsiders are welcome to participate in festivals or even prayer when invited, but otherwise do not see why a non Draconic would worship the Dragon gods.

Mythology & Lore

Modern Draconic do not have any formal holy book, only oral traditions and fragments of artifacts from before the Scourge.

The Gods

Modern Draconic still worship the dragon gods of the ancients, which they believe to have created all celestial bodies. Depending on the clan, some deities are worshiped more than others or not heard of at all.   Major Gods These gods have the most information about them, and are the most widely known.
  • Aiwari: God of comradery, clan, and hunters. Creator of the earth   Symbols: the horns, the clan pyre, the earth

  • Tsuna: Goddess of justice and vengeance. Creator of the moon   Symbols: the fang, tsunamis, the moon

  • Zhavyn: Goddess of war and blood. Creator of the sun   Symbols: the claw, blood, the sun

  • Yuzouh: God of all, the aether, the universe creator, gravity itself   Symbols: the eyes, stars
Minor Gods   These deities are not widely known, and only worshiped by a handful of individual clans
  • ZhiZhu: God of crafts, weaving, and architecture
  • Sapana: Goddess of dreams and rivers
  • larada: God of medicine, healing, and plague
  • Shandian: Goddess of storms and lightning
  • Ponlok: Goddess of agriculture and weather
  • Galotas: God of fire, pyres, and purification

Birth and Death

All dragons, mortal and divine alike, are said to have been born of Yuzouh.   Yuzouh split off tiny slivers of their soul to go out into the universe to learn and grow, to become a greater god. These pieces of their soul become Dragons. When a Dragon dies, their soul will become one with Yuzouh once more, regardless of how they lived their life. All matters of perspective are important to this deity.   However, since the Scourge severed the Fate Lines of the Draconic, they believe they are unable to return to Yuzouh. They now reincarnate again and again, until their Fate Doctors are able to perfectly to fix the damage, which is yet to be seen.

Tenets of Faith

The draconic rarely ask for assistance from the gods. They give to the gods, and believe that if they are worthy, the gods will give what they think is deserved. They do not ask for victory in war, the draconic take victory as an offering to the gods.   To the draconic, clans are family, and are held in very high regard. They protect their own fiercely, and look to family for guidance. Love and compassion for family is valued, to turn against family or abandon them is to betray the gods.   Draconic hold the art, science, and study of the heavens in high regard. Everything from astrology to astronomy is studied, believing that the Dragon Gods put all celestial bodies in the sky and even inhabit them. They are creators of some of the earliest star charts, and first to understand the planet’s rotation around the sun.

Worship

Shrines, Offerings, and Prayer

Many draconic clans set up shrines to deities and ancestors. Offerings can be placed there, but they are more of a physical representation of the deity in question. If a Draconic wishes to feel closer to a god, they may go to a shrine or create one out of what they have.   Prayer can be done at any time, at any place, it does not have to be at a shrine. The best way to pray and show worship is to stand up tall, reach arms out towards the domain of the god, and speak in a clear, loud voice. Draconic believe is best to not be bashful, to show love and appreciation for all to see.   Draconic rarely ask for much, but do want to show gratitude for the gods and attempt a re connection with them via offerings. Offerings are always burned at a fire, the rising smoke believed to travel out to the gods wherever they may be.

Tournament of Strength

A popular festival in honor of the gods, especially Aiwari, is the Tournament of Strength. Many of the activities are newer inventions, but the spirit and concept can be found in artifacts pre-Scourge.   This festival between draconic clans takes place during Month of Beasts, from the new moon to first quarter moon. Draconic clans within a given area participate, and some clans may travel to other realms to compete in bigger gatherings. They usually take place on the land of the previous year's winning clan or in a designated area.   Common activities include Kobbau racing, wrestling, archery, and football, which are meant for just about anyone to take part in. There are even children's versions of these activities.   One competition from ancient times involves hunting for a creature specially bred for the event. Some clans breed them to be stronger, some more elusive, but they are always difficult to catch in one way or another. This is a competition itself to see who can breed the best. Each clan hunts for a creature another clan prepared.   On the final night, the beasts that were hunted are used in a grand feast. One of the creatures is offered in full to the gods, burned at a great pyre.
