Xana

No one is certain how old the World of Xana actually is. Current written history only goes back a few hundred years. Older civilizations are only rumors and vague cultural legends. Even the elves are not entirely clear on things that happened millennia ago.
Since the fall of the last Great Civilization the world has fallen into a Dark Age. In this current age there is a dearth of heroes and legendary figures. The people are mostly a cowardly and superstitious lot. Those who show abilities and powers beyond the norm usually rise up to become leaders.
Xana is overseen by Pelor, the God, and physical manifestation of the Sun. His lifegiving light brings warmth and life to the world. He is accompanied in his journey around the world by 2 Goddesses, represented by the 2 moons of Xana, Hathor and Ostara. Hathor is the wife of Pelor and Ostara is her handmaiden. Together they form a tried of Gods that when spoken or worshipped together are called The Three. Most medium or larger settlements have a temple dedicated to The Three. Some attendants may pay more homage to one or more, but all of the revere The Three as a group.
Since the dawn of the current Age, there has been a strange occurrence which involves The Three. Not merely as deities but also as the physical manifestations of the Sun and 2 moons. Semi-annually, during the time of the equinox, the moons converge to completely blot out the sun for a period fo 3 days. These are known as the Dark Days to most. During this time, creatures from the Underdark are known to come to the surface and run amok and cause as much mayhem as they can before the coming dawn forces them back into the shadows.
During the Dark Days the populations of walled towns swell with people from the outlands who do not feel safe living in the countryside during these times.
