Describe the settlement they inhabit and its unique characteristics.

The town of Scrim, in Millstone County, WV.   The seasons fade into a long and undifferentiated sameness as the climate changes and becomes a uniform monotony. A place seemingly untouched by time becomes more worthy of the descriptor, and the timeless Fair Folk draw closer.   A teenager on his four-wheeler crashes, knocking over a standing stone. He rights the bike, and rides away. The stone's inscription was faded, but it would have kept out what was buried below it for another fifty years.   A man falls asleep on the lake-top, fishing in his canoe. The thing of reeds and rope and driftwood barely pauses to take out the hook before it flips the canoe into the water. It walks to shore wearing his face. It's master says it has a future in sales, for a very specific product.   These are things that happen outside of Scrim. They do not happen inside.   Common wisdom would call these abnormal, bizarre events. Common wisdom is wrong.   The barrier between our reality and what lies beyond is a permeable membrane. Things have always passed between. Things have always wanted to pass between. What people see bears only a passing resemblance to what is there. An industrious set of occultists built a defense, put markers and wards into the earth and on it, and made their home clean. Nature is not clean. Not in this world or any other. Stop up the water in a drain, and the drain will overflow. Scrim has had its drain stopped up for a very long time.   Every marker, every ward, every seven-pointed star has its inverse, a sign that can be its opposite and equal. Every energy can be negated. The trick was planting them where they wouldn't be taken down. The Fae planted them in the sleeping minds of the people.   The Fae didn't create this pill-plague, but they are creatures of dreams, and they know the value of a heavy, languid, chemical sleep. For them it is both terra firma and terra incognito, a staging ground for The Riding.
