Ara

Fabled to be the most advanced of the ancient civilisations, Ara is within the The Araen Wastes and was in its prime when much of it was grassland instead of desert. So old that even its main ikayal inhabitants - the leosol, or Sunlions - no longer walk the earth, Ara was an empire constructed of smaller regions and kingdoms. If not for the rise of the Dreamers, it might still be standing. And out of it came the first Night Keeper, Telum Starspeaker - though he was to subdue the Midnight, it was not enough to save his home.

Founding

There are very few records that tell accurately of Ara's founders or anything involving its beginnings. Most of its lore is preserved in songs and fables, neither of which are historically reliable. However, according to the nomad civilisations which now wander its ruins, there are many engravings and old, wyr-preserved documents. These records are considered invaluable and have recently become of interest to the Wanderers' Guild of Axu.  The documents speak of a nameless man, gifted by the Diamond Snake - an Arbeast of the time who has since been lost to time. This man grew a tree that would soon become the heart of his new city, Ais. The inhabitants of the city then expanded their reach, joining with the various other civilisations within the desert. As they did so, it appears that a company of mages called the Growers raised the city's famous Gardens. However, much of this early period is lost entirely.

The Lirustime

Unlike many of the other ancient nations, Ara was not a participant in the wars against the Midnight. There are no records of any mages or armies fighting the Midnight at all. Ara only played a role as a protector - in this case, of the Noxheart. This stone, the essence of the Night Wyrpath, was hidden in the Gardens during Ara's founding, according to the Priestess of Nox. It was later uncovered by a young ikaya named Telum, who later became the Starspeaker.
The wars against the Midnight did affect the nation, however. For one, Ara imported much of its food and materials, as the land was becoming arider. As neighbouring countries sent people instead of products, the nation was hit by a shortage of food and an overflow of refugees. This double threat forced the economy into a downward spiral. Additionally, many of its satellite countries seceded from the empire, removing much of its land and income.
