Vip Bumurra: Irewa's Last Known Species

Vip bumurra were not known to exist. They have similar cousins that wander through the wastes of Yatkaugo, but the cousins didn't have to go through the geographic cataclysm that toppled the Irewan Empire. In the lack of adequate food or shelter, animals can't be expected to last days on the island. Nonetheless, these creatures found rather effective means to survive in the post-apocalypse.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

In the mating ritual of vip bumurra, the female of the species climbs on the back of the male of the species while inside the volcano chamber. The male then tries to climb up the side of the volcano while carrying both their weights. If the male begins to falter, the female climbs off, kicking the male in the process and sending him to an untimely death by magma. If the male makes it out, the two are officially a couple and can carry on the species.

Ecology and Habitats

To shield itself from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, vip bumurra are capable of burying themselves in the ground. Some do this, but the most common place to find them are clinging to the inside of the vent of one of the three primary volcanos. Trading risk of ultraviolet radiation for risk of overheating, they make frequent travels to the sea to cool off, burrowing through the ash as needed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vip bumurra have special glands that desalinate the water and food that they consume. This allows them to drink seawater, eat kelp, and hunt for fish without dehydrating. Their stomachs help to store their food, allowing them to delay their time between meals and stay in the relative safety of the volcano chamber. They drink and store disproportionately large quantities of water to help with the heat issues they constantly face.
Conservation Status
Vip bumurra are neither large nor valuable creatures outside of mere curiosity. They live in perpetual danger, just not from sapient creatures.
