Tou Te Rai Wyiaiyi: Star Wanderer

An artist once had an argument with a friend about the mental differences between the different sapient species of Wouraiya. The artist's friend argued that, outside of physical differences, they were all identical. The artist disagreed, saying that, while there was a negligible difference, there was a difference in the way the species processed information that was key to their distinction. The artist was so convinced of this that she set her next project on proving her theory. With the help of her Werai apprentice and months of research, she tried to build and paint a sculpture such that all humans could see one thing, all Werai could see another, all Kauaru would see yet another, et cetera. After years of development, she displayed her artwork for all to see. Sure enough, all the humans in her village saw a large weroiki, while all the Werai saw a fruit, and all the Kauaru saw a mountain. They had all grown up in the same village, so the sampling was as clean as could be.   The discovery was announced the world around, and people from all over the continent came to see. Soon, a band of human Keyrit traders stopped by her village. They remarked to her at what a beautiful shield it was. This perplexed her; she had never intentioned to incorporated a shield in her piece of art. Kauaru from Yatkaugo passed by and saw a brilliant constellation, while Kauaru from Wlitowa saw the waves of the sea. More and more species and cultures saw uniquely different things from her artwork, until the piece was no longer definitively recognizable.   Stories tell that, at her wit's end, she threw her hands to the sky and shouted, "I sought to travel downstream, but now I am lost wandering the stars!" Her experiment came to a close, but whether it ended in success or failure, she could not tell. To this day, the piece is called "Tou te rai wyiaiyi," literally, "She moves at the side of the stars."
