Doyogayao: Doyog Steep

Geography

Doyog Steep is a large, brown peak, the second highest in Tuhra. From its peak, one can survey both yellow plains of Tuhra to its west and great seas to its east. Halfway up its western slopes is a large cavern, which can be traversed in its entirety in a few minutes' walk. A river carves into its eastern side, forming a much steeper face than elsewhere. A small settlement can be found on its north.

Doyog is easily the most isolated settlement in all Tuhra. It's the farthest away from the capital, not to mention surrounded by lesser mountains.

History

Doyog Steep was formed when the Tuhran continent pressed against the edge of Yukur, creating a small range in Tuhra's eastern portion. A river flowed from one of these mountains past Doyog Steep. The nomadic Yukuric migrations into Tuhra mostly flowed towards the larger plains, but small groups of migrants gave up their nomadic lifestyles to live in the mountains. They considered themselves Tuhran but developed distinct cultures and lifestyles. They were never harassed by their neighbors due to their impregnable position but joined the newly-formed empire of their own volition.

Doyog Steep was the last bastion of Tuhran resistance during the first Keyrit-Wlitowan invasion. Hut Rarei surrendered there when it was clear that the invaders were planning for a long siege, and the victors signed the Great Union of Doyog Steep there, forming the Doyog Pact.

Doyog Steep became a national icon. Doyog became the capital of the Great Eastern Uprising, and the Ugo-yt invasion of Tuhra made certain to capture the surrounding province first. That conquest solidified Ugo-yt claims to be the "liberators" of Tuhra, and it encouraged a great many nationalists to rise up against their Wlitowan overlords.

Tourism

Despite being the site of the Tuhrans' final surrender, Doyog Steep has attracted a large amount of Tuhran nationalists. It's much too far away from the capital for the Wlitowan Authority to control it efficiently, so crackdowns on resistance movements are much sparser and much less powerful than similar crackdowns in the other main settlements. Doyog built a pro-Tuhran political base, and Hut Rarei became more of a legend than anywhere else in Tuhra. Stories that weren't exaggerated or expanded were straight-up fabricated regarding Hut Rarei and the final efforts of the Tuhran militia. Not least among these was the legend that Hut Rarei was still fighting a guerrilla war in the mountains to the south, despite the fact that he was currently retired on his farm.
